Springville from Bridge Rd (St Johns Bridge)?

Thanks for all of the responses - wow! Most of the 20+ replies
indicate Springville from that direction is not advisable on a road
bike, but Saltzman should be fine. Saltzman is more out of my way (and
time is important), but looks like my only realistic choice other than
Germantown.

Saltzman is easy on a road bike as the first half is paved and the second half is very hard packed dirt. I used to commute on it regularly in the summer. While it is great in the summer, I do not think it would be enjoyable in the winter. I believe you have to use 56th Street to get to Saltzman from Hwy 30.

I do not think Springville goes all the way through to Skyline from Hwy 30.

In the winter, for a paved road a bit out of the way, try Newbury.

Is Springville up from the St Johns Bridge climbable on a road bike? If not, how about Saltzman from Hwy 30? I?m trying to find the best alternative to climbing Germantown during rush hour. Thanks - EH
