female cyclists in seattle?

I think it's more like women cyclists are so sexy and desirable that they just don't stay single long. They are swept off their feet by cyclists and non cyclists alike. Seriously, what's more attractive than a woman out racing her bike!?

They'd be more fun done Portland Weekly style:
"Me: Older woman, 50+ years young. Cute butt. You: City limit sprint partner, available for post ride meals and more.... "
or
"Green fairly left wing Democrat seeks same for hill repeats and other punishment. Spandex a must. Heels and fishnets optional"

P. S. It's a joke !!

MastWM - 50+ looking for City limit sprint partner.

Must be comfortable looking at a man in spandex. Able to change a flat on their own. 9-spd grouppo a minimum. Versatile (Shimano or Campy).

Amen to that, Kristin.

My interest in racing grew out of a long-affair... with just riding my bike and a bit of touring. I didn't get into racing until I got rid of a bummer boyfriend a few years ago. It wasn't a bad trade-off: none of my seven bikes have ever cheated on me, I don't have to worry about putting the toilet seat down in the middle of the night, and they all support my appreciation of fine beer, although between the lot of them I can't get a decent back rub to save my life.

I will say this though: Last year's survey of (mostly) newer riders/racers did indicate strongly that a large percentage of women come to the sport because of boyfriends/husbands. Which is why, I think, it's important for we women to keep supporting MTT rides, skills clinics, group rides and other places/events where women riders have some support, paricularly if they are more extrinsically versus intrinsically motivated.

Uma

BTW: Love your blog. Now that I'm MTBing again I'm always looking for riders to to get dirty with. Give me a shout back if you want to share some gas and driving out to Lewis River or Syncline some Saturday.

Let's get down to what's important. Will they push me uphills?

Wow WOW. Kristin, Grow a sense of humor and realize that I WANT you to ride and you have no reason to be offended. I'm saying I WISH MORE WOMEN WOULD RIDE BICYCLES. Hell, I sometimes fantisise about immigrating to the Netherlands for that very reason.

Note the terminology (They "appear" to give up the bike). This means that it SEEMS like we don't meet them unless they're non-single. I know and have known many female cyclists - the vast majority of them married or with boyfriends/girlfriends.

I like other cyclists. I like women. So the combination of the two is, of course, an attraction for a male cyclists (me). It's possible that female cyclists are simply so appealing that they just don't have to be single for very long.

Surely you can understand why I would JOKE about the possible non-existence of such a rare being. This is not a "battle of the sexes" thing, so please don't make it that.

And for the record, I've had multiple girlfriends who sold their bikes shortly after our respective break-ups. That's about when my nameless friend uttered that quote about cycling vs religion. I'm sure there have been guys who did the same after splitting with their cyclist girlfriends, too. These may be isolated incidents, the exception to the rule, but it happens and I'm just pointing out what a bummer that is.

- One Male Cyclist whose hope springs eternal.

Maybe Kenji can do something about adding a
dating service for cyclists to the OBRA web site?

That'd be great! We could have it sort candidates for compatibility by
Cat, results and sponsors. Jeez, with as many photographers we have at
the events pictures would be no problem either.

Talk about a revenue generating opportunity for OBRA... the
possibilities are mind boggling!

Hey, certainly bike races and clubs are a gold mine for women, no denying
that. Just sayin, most of the women I know, including myself, got into the
sport for other reasons, independent of boyfriends.

I can only imagine what the personals on an OBRA dating service would look
like... :)

Do single women ride bikes? I can't recall meeting a single female cyclist. They appear to give up the bike as soon as they break up with their boyfriend (or girlfriend).

The SFC is as elusive as Sasquatch. There are people who swear they've encountered them, but you may go your whole life without ever stumbling upon one yourself.

A rather philosophical friend of mine once said "You'll convert a girlfriend to your religion more easily than you'll convert her to cycling."

In fact, the best kept secret for lonely women everywhere is probably how quickly they'd meet someone (a fit, healthy someone) if they were to take up cycling and constantly hang out in bike shops and go on local group rides.

Looking for like-minded female cyclist to hold hands with for half an hour on Saturday afternoon just outside of Seattle. Preferably someone with good fitness and a willingness to work hard. Someone of equal stature is a plus. I'm 5'7" and around 140lbs. Track specific bike a must. Good handling skills and previous experience a plus.

I look forward to meeting and holding hands with you.
