FW: OBRA road racer data- statiscis

And don't forget the Masters:

Ages Men Women
30-39 104 21
40-49 299 54
50-59 122 18
60-69 27 2
70+ 3
TOTAL 555 95

This is based on people who have actually raced this year in a Masters
category, AND placed in the top-15 to get BAR points, according to the
age-graded BAR. So, there are presumably also quite a few who raced but
didn't earn points, or who haven't raced yet this year (waiting for CX!!).

Charles

Yes it is really that good. Last year we had 1 cyclocross race that we had
almost 1100 local riders show up for. For the last 6 weeks we have had a
bike race every day of the week acros the state, sometimes 2-3 on a given
day.

Velonews did an article about all the different states last year. We were #1
in 2 out of 3 categories. I think that part of the problem is that we
capture Road/Mtn and CCX in our numbers. I am not sure that USAC does.

Hi Candy,

A while back you kindly sent me membership data for OBRA, which I needed for
a slide presentation I am preparing.

To my surprise, Oregon's 2,347 road racers give it far more competitors per
100,000 of total population (3,701,000 in 2006) than any other state:

Oregon 63.4
New Hampshire 33.9
Vermont 31.4
Colorado 28.2
Utah 24.8
D.C. 24.7
Idaho 23.9
Washington 22.9
Connecticut 22.2
Massachusetts 21.7
Montana 17.9
California 17.2
Rhode Island 16.5
Arizona 16.4
Maine 14.2

I knew OBRA was doing a good job, but is it really this good?

Thanks,

Charles Howe
