An interesting article. Scientific American did a cover story on genetic manipulation in the last year or so.

As far as EPO doping of any kind, it seems to make sense to go back to the "red blood cell ratio" approach: If you have over 50% red blood cells, you are disqualified. Period.

There was a very amusing short story done 30+ years ago about artifical mutations showing up in the world arena. The gills and flippers were a dead giveaway in the swimmers.

I was just reading my hard copy of bi-weekly sciencenews and finished an article on the latest info on gene doping with regard to athletics. It is very interesting (some history, perspective) and can also be read on their website. www.sciencenew.org click on the "genes / cells" subject heading then scroll down until you find the article "Finding the Golden Genes". It is an easy read and in language that most of us can understand. It amazes me what people will consider doing to themselves to win. They lose so much more in the end it would seem.
