small cross bike options - ghetto cross?!

Another great option for small riders is the Pulse from REI. I think she
mentions it on her website. It's a non-stocked web order only item. $500.
It has 26" wheels and 8 speed components. It's a little heavy but bomb
proof.
It's great for those "tweeners" who are too big for the 24" wheel bike but
not ready for the 48cm frame and 700c wheels.

Hello OBRA,

I noticed several people have posted to the OBRA list looking for
small cross bikes.

This link has several options:

The idea which led me to her site, is the fabulous,"ghetto-cross":

I am sure some of you will try to explain why this is a really bad
idea, but for under 200$... it will be GREAT!

Very nice whatever works!
fyi, going up with the handlebars (ie taller stem) has the same effect as going back with the handlebars(shorter stem).    City Bikes, and etc, sell a wide variety of used stems cheap....

I have a cheap, but sturdy (meaning not-that-light)  700c, approx 54 cm Effective Top tube
Frame, Fork, headset.  Specialized cross roads.  Thinking $40.  any cheaper i may take a hacksaw too it and use the tubing elsewhere or maybe make into a tandem...  26.8 seatpost.  hangers for cantilever brakes.  Also if the frame ever breaks, i will fix it for you free... not that it will ever break.
