Hey OBRA Land,

A friend and fellow triathlete of mine was the victim of a hit and run early last Thursday morning at about 12:30 am at the corner of SE Hawthorne and 15th. He was cycling west on Hawthorne (with lights and flashers) and the eastbound vehicle made a quick left into his path, took him out and then sped away north on 15th.

Bystanders and another driver found him the intersection and helped him but did not pursue the vehicle due to it's high speed. He got an ambulance ride out of the deal, is really banged up and can only now start to get around gingerly on crutches.

Witness's and my friends understandably sketchy recollection think that it might have been a pickup with a canopy or possibly a SUV. The police responded and are supposed to be investigating although he is still waiting to hear back from them on the status of any investigative work.

The officer in charge of the investigation is Michelle Hughes with the Portland Police Bureau. If you have any info that might be helpful please give her a call.

Thanks,
Pete
