Hey Mountain bikers,
The roadies had their state hill climb championships last weekend. Ours is
coming up in just about two weeks (Sept 14th). The Mt. Ashland Hill Climb
features road riders vs. mountain bikers on a great course. For the
mountain bikers, this is the last chance you'll have to earn a state
championship medal this year. So come on down and earn some bling. The
great thing about riding your mountain bike up the hill is that you get to
enjoy the incredible 12 miles of single track on the way back down. Single
track from the top to the bottom. The roadies on the other hand have to
either drive down (boring) or ride back down the way they came (not so
boring, but not as fun as singletrack).
The course is long: 14 miles or so. Steep: pitches of 15% with 4600 feet of
climbing.
For all of the roadies who took home medals at last week's state
championship, do you think you can do the double: Win both the road and the
mountain bike hill climb championships? For all you pros out there, Evan
Plews has won the race the past two years. Is anybody going to come down
and challenge him? Erik Tokin? Carl Decker? Surely one of you could put
the hurt on him?
For the roadies, I hear there's something special if you can break the
record. It hasn't been broken in quite a while. I know the locals down
here have been training pretty hard for this race so they'll be tough to
beat and are hoping to break that record.
So gather all your friends, and carpool over to Ashland.
Hope to see you all down here!
John
