I-205 bike path changes

Oregon DOT sent Emerald Velo the following letter, and I thought I should

share it with the rest of the community:

"In August 2001, a $23.5 million project to construct a new interchange

structure over Interstate 205 at Sunnybrook got underway.

The project also includes reconfiguration of in- and off- ramps;

construction of collector distributor roads and auxiliary lanes; retaining-

and sound- wall construction; and bicycle/pedestrian reconstruction.

Beginning Monday, January 7, 2002, ODOT's contractor will close (fence off)

the I-205 bike/pedestrian path for an indefinite period of time up to 2

years. The closure will be between Sunnyside Road and the Oregon Highway

224 (Milwaukee Expressway) Interchange.

Construction of the project's west side improvements creates a hazard for

bicyclists and pedestrians. The path will be removed and heavy construction

equipment will be hauling materials in and out of the area. The work zone is

off limits to all non-construction individuals.

A detour by way of Sunnyside Road to SE 82nd Ave. to the Highway 225

(Milwaukee Expressway interchange is in place.

Within the next year, the closure may extend north to Monterey Avenue.

Information about this extended closure will be made available on ODOT's

project website at www.odot.or.us/region1/sunnybrook.htm
