most sensible road bikes have clearance for 30/ 32c tires. and so will work fine when there is no mud. if its close clearance like only a couple mm, don't go crazy with the tire pressure or the tire will expand and use up that clearance, well or keep that mind, tires sit over night with pressure and all of sudden the bike you thought would work fine, will not any longer. If you really have to you may be able to shim the dropout/axle a tad to get another mm or two. or take a belt sander to the top knobbies. yeah.

Anyone in Eugene or surrounding area:
I am new to cross and have yet to get me a bike. I'm wanting to race the
Kermesse Farm crit this weekend on a cross bike just to test it out and see how
I like riding cross. I'm wondering if anyone out there has a 51-52 cm cross
bike that they wouldn't mind letting me use for Saturday and Sunday.
I'd like to get a hold of it saturday afternoon (after 4:00) and you'll
have it back Sunday evening. The Kermesse crit isn't very technical, so
there isn't a lot of risk to the bike itself. I just want to try get a
little taste before I lay some money down on a cross bike of my own.
Please contact me off list (kspence2@uoregon.edu) or by phone (541) 556-0454.
Thanks!
Karey Miles
