Pain on the Peak

Missed it last year and did not feel bad as the dust always seemed to be MY main problem! The new layout was much less dusty that my previous “encounters”, but it was very tough on an old man! Trust me. The heat does get tougher to deal with as you move on in years! I do think it was more the heat even between 11 AM and noon. I cannot imagine those racing right now during the 3 PM hour are feeling! You are better than I !
The course was really fun. Mid-late October might be interesting up there....if they had not plowed the field under!
I want to say it seemed very well organized, good support and even though hot, lots of fun was taking place.
Thanks to Sunset Cycles, other sponsors, volunteers, fellow racers and Sal for putting on a good race.
Wow....coming up, Hutch’s CCX in Eugene, Webcyclery Thrill in Bend, Hood River Double Cross, CrossAflixion Cup in Bend, Battle at Barlow, FFCX Moore Cowbell in Klamath Falls and Blind Date at the Dairy. Thanks to all the Sponsors, Promoters and volunteers. Of course then we get to OCTOBER....and our options just continue to be the best in the nation! The normal weather patterns start bringing in the storms from the SW about mid-month! Ah! Cyclocross Season in the Northwest.

I will be driving by that area for work and wondered if it was possible to check out or pre-ride the course? I think it is private land and want to respect their privacy and access.

I’ll be up there at 7:30 AM to assist with registration. If you you
purchased an annual at the last Kruger’s Kermesse, I will have your
OBRA card at registration. You will be receiving your Cross Crusade
numbers at the event. If you haven’t purchased your annual membership,
please have your membership form filled out (legibly) when you arrive.
All racers please have their race release ready to go- don’t worry
about filling out the plate/bib#- you’ll get that taken care of at
registration.

If you are a current OBRA member- you must bring proof of OBRA
membership- e.g. your membership card, your current 2008 MTB Plate or
road number.

In addition- no smoking and do not bring your own barbeque. As this is
private property- those who violate these prohibitions will be asked
to leave. The fire danger on top of Bald Peak is extremely high. PV
has bulldozed a big area around the Madison’s Bar and Grill cooking
area to prevent fires. I am also asking that ALL racers be vigilant
about fires in the parking area. If you see any sign of fire or smoke,
please let the PV members on fire patrol know. The last thing we want
is to have a fire in the parking lot. The biggest concern is a hot
exhaust system underneath a low riding vehicle creating a potential
flash fire hazard. The Brush Fire team from Washington County Fire
District #2 will be on site.

That said, this will be a great race and that team competition trophy-
is a hoot.

See you there!
