tubeless cross?

I mounted a set of Schwalbe Racing Ralph CX clinchers on Mavic Open 4
Rims semi ghetto tubeless. I used a cut down 26" tube with Stan's yellow
tape and sealant. I raced them at the second Klamath Falls race which
was a perfect test for them. It hard dirt with loose stuff over it and
had a section I refer to as a rock garden. It consisted of about 10
yards of large, 4" to 5" diameter rocks. I banged through the rock
section each lap. I weigh 190 pounds and ran the tires at 40 psi. They
worked perfectly while a lot of guys flatted on tires with tubes.

Hi,

My procrastinating self has been thinking about trying a tubeless setup for cross this year. In my head this is to be a cheap alternative to tubulars until next year so the object is to get out as cheap as possible.

I would like to use my existing rims, Velocity Aeroheads, with clinchers. I have heard the Mud 2s work well, I was going to try the new Hutchinson Bulldogs which look like they have a good tread pattern and are rated for tubeless setup.

I have a set of Joe's No Flats 26" rim strips and alternately have been reading up on ghetto tubeless setups using cutup bmx tubes as a rimstrip.

I have heard from people that you'd be crazy to try this with anything but the Stans rims but with these new Hutchinson tires the bead should be tighter, Lennard Zinn says they work.

By the way I'm ~160 lbs and ride pretty aggressively.

Anybody have any experience with this, especially with the ghetto tubeless and the new Bulldog tires.

Thanks for any feedback,

Dave
