I used a wire brush and some goof off, then spun the rollers with a drill while I held steel wool on them to get them all shiny. They has that rubber build up on them -i got 'em used. I have yet to get my hands on some, but they make special tires for riding the rollers that don't wear so fast.

My Kreitler aluminum rollers develop a buildup of tire rubber on the
rear roller set, leading to a bumpy ride. Does anyone know how to
safely get the excess rubber off of the rollers?
