Wow, who knew that the cones vs. tape debate would be such a hot one?

Perhaps we should just line up all the spectators and make them be
the course markers!

Anybody remember the starting call-ups at Astoria last Sunday?

Is the last number called still getting the first call up at the subsequest race?

Thanks

Phew... I had to read that twice. I thought for a moment that it said
"pony" lift.

Do not worry about the dropping temps and chance of rain, waffles will be fresh and hot at Barton!

Now that proper cyclocross weather is on its way, come by and check out the selection of trainers, sweaters, hats, socks and beautiful, locally-made wool jerseys from Wabi Woolens. These jerseys are perfect for cold, wet weather and will outlast every piece of lycra in your closet by a decade. Check out the recent compliments on cyclingnews.com: http://www.cyclingnews.com/tech.php?id=tech/2008/newarrivals/10-27

Swiftwick socks are also reviewed on that page and I have those, too. I'm down to just the short-cuff versions for this weekend, but the long cuffs will be on their way. I wore a pair on this morning's commute and my feet were very thankful.

After all that scary talk of the danger of cross cones or stakes with ribbons lately, I was thinking of going trick or treating tomorrow with my kids and dress up as an ominous cross crusade cone and scare the hell out of people!! Ahhhh!!!!! The only questions was which color??? Is red or yellow more dangerous and scary??? Maybe set myself up on the route to the front door of our house and then spontaneously fall over into the walkway half way to the door! Dude! That would be scary, huh? But my wife said "No!" It would screw up the "Trick or Treat Door Cam" we set up at the line near the porch where kids would go on to the porch.

Okay, sorry for stupid humor. If you can't make yourself laugh, then what is the point?

Next Halloween lets have part of the course delineated by spectators dressed
as Coneheads.

make a nice commuter or second bike for someone 6' to 6'5".

Barely used size 47 (US 13) Nike Poggio III racing shoes. Carbon fiber sole. Color: shiny Chrome color w/ Blue accents (Team Discovery colors). 3 velcro strap closure. Nike doesn't make this anymore. These are almost new. Soles are scuffed from walking, but otherwise these shoes are perfect. I think I wore these maybe 10 times for maybe 25 hours and not in the rain. Sold new for $200. Asking $99/obo.

Single Speed Cyclocross World Championships Weekend Update (Imagine Tina Fey reading it to you)
For impatient readers everything important is in Bold. Pretty cool, huh?

SCHEDULE:
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 7TH- Realize the race qualifiers are the next day, scramble to complete/purchase/build a single speed cross bike. Consider sweet costume idea and gather friends and family for the heckling competition. Oh, and travel to Portland and remember how to have fun.

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 8TH- The Earth ceases rotation for appropriate qualifier race conditions.
Qualifier Race head quarters: Chris King 2801 NW Nela St Portland, OR (mapquest it, fool)
9:00am-10: 30am Late registration at Chris King. All racers should be to Chris King by 10:30.
11:00am Qualifier Time trial location revealed
12:00pm (that's noon)- first rider off! History is made as the running of the most incredible time trial ever begins.
Sometime after noon (depending on number of racers, length of race, how many get lost, etc)- Back to Chris King HQ for some smack talk, 'bro downs, huge complaints from racers, spectators and the surrounding citizenry, and snacks!

Evening 6pm- Meet at SSCXWC Party headquarters- Vanilla Bicycles Workshop 717 SE 35th Ave.
The evening festivities will include the Last Chance Qualifier Race; this will likely be more fun than the time trial qualifier so slow times are expected. Food, beer and dodge ball; this race/party will also be the prequel to the Best Pub Crawl Ever (seriously, we have it on good authority from someone who was at the last Best Pub Crawl ever. Based on schematics, maps and astrology, this Pub Crawl, scientifically speaking, will be the best one ever). Not that we condone excess drinking, but the longer you last in the pub crawl will likely have a positive effect on your qualification, assuming you haven't yet. TEAM BEER (seriously) will be hosting the event.

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 9- The actual cyclocross race to determine the Champion. Portland International Raceway (mapquest, again)
9:00am- (not required but encouraged) get to Portland International Raceway for the early Cross Crusade events. Race all the races as a warm up for the SSCXWC. Try not to be like Sue Butler and crash out the kids during the Kiddie Cross race. That's not cool... Or just watch and cheer the huge throngs (throngs, not thongs..yet) of racers participating in this wonderful series. Out of towners: watch and learn how 'cross racing should be promoted and executed (read: try to be in the right place at the at right time like these guys and shoot from the hip as much as possible).
