THere are a lot of rougher roads on the east side. like the grid starting at mlk to 82nd running longitudinally, and division to killingsworth running laterally. they are pretty rough with like a concrete/very large chip seal mix. You can peice together enough sections to form something. Thats what i use to do. I use to have it all marked on a map where these sections are, but have long lost in in one too many moves.

Mike,

Not sure if this would fly, but maybe:

W Union, Groveland, Dierdorff, Helvetia, Phillips, Dick, W Union.

Here is one, more pavement than gravel but still good.

Take dirty 30 to Scappoose, turn off on Dutch Canyon Rd. (Alt: Skyline to Rocky Point, then go down to 30 that way)

Stay on Dutch Canyon, it turns into Otto Miller, changes to gravel, and heads uphill all at the same time. Keep going and you will end up inteersecting with Dixie Mt Rd.

Now, if you go left, you will get to Skyline. If you do this, and také Skyline back to town, you will have about a 3-4 hr ride, 3 hrs or so if yu just take 30 to Scappoose, or closer to 4 if you climb up to Skyline and take that to the end.

If you have time, instead of going left on Dixie Mt, go right. You will decend for a few miles (all on gravel). When you get to the bottom, go left and you will have a gravel road climb back to Skyline. My guess is that this will add 45 minutes (someone chime in if I am off base with this).

Depending on where you start from, you could go up Saltzman to Skyline to start and vice versa on the return trip.

I have ridden up Otto Miller 3 times in the last year on 28C tires. Depending on your gravel riding ability, you would be fine with these. I have even ridden down Dixie Mt on these same tires and I survived but it was a little scary, but on the other hand, I am a chicken when it comes to descending on gravel. My guess is that since you are asking about gravel riding, you can ride gravel.

As I said, more pavement than gravel but still a good ride.

Another possibility is to ride the offshoot roads out on Sauvie. They all eventually turn to gravel, but the downer is that they all dead end.

if someone can come up with a rolling, 10-15 mile circuit that includes a
few sections of gravel in the PDX area, i'll consider getting a permit for a
race...

If someone puts together a book/map that includes the best gravel roads
around Portland I will buy a copy.

Skyline road turns into gravel when you hit WA county. Many of the roads
down from Skyline in WA county are gravelly and otherwise unfinished. Think
of it as Oregon cobblestone.

The days of cobblestone are long gone. There are patchs here and there in
NW PDX but only in short bits. Lots of gravel on Dixie Mountain Rd. Some
miles of gravel up past Snooseville. For rough roads I'd recommend the side
roads that "connect" Barbur Blvd with Multnomah. You'll want heavy tires
and strong rims. The area abounds with two-foot wide potholes 3 & 4 inches
deep.
