Racing Distances

I'm not real sure how this works, but it seems to me that if you can keep up
with the 1-2-3's on a 60 mile road race then you might want to consider
upgrading to a 3?

I know several women who have upgraded because they would rather ride with
the 1-2-3 field, even though they weren't required to by the upgrade points.
I think it's a good idea to keep the cat-4 races to a more moderate length
and speed that novice racers can handle, to encourage women new to racing to
try stage races and road races.

I agree with Kim - as a Cat 4 racer at the Eugene Celebration this year it
was really nice to have the Cat4 ladies run separately in the Crit so that
fewer people were pulled- if time allows for that at all I'd try to run it
that way. As far as the RR goes I like being lumped in with the 1,2,3's for
the larger group atmosphere.

Hey Judy
I as a cat 4, I like the idea of doing the same distances as the other women
( like Elkhorn) at least on the road race stage. And starting all the women
(cat 1-4) was cool at Elkhorn as we had a really large peloton at the
begining of the race until the first real climb.
And I don't mind having the crit with all women if it is a reasonable sized
group but understand some women would prefer to have the cat 4's separate. I
think it depends on how many cat 4's are registered for the race, if there
are less than 10 I definitely would prefer to race with all the other women.

Any chance the Cat 4s could get their own crit? A good portion of the 4's
get pulled when racing with the 1-2s, and that's a bummer. They should get
to race to win at the line, not by who gets pulled the latest.

Since it's early in the season, I'd think the Cat 4s would like a shorter
last day RR, but that's just my guess. In fact, can the Cat 3's race with
the 4's on the last day ;-)

Is the crit 30 minutes for everyone? I might say having a little longer (40-45 min) for the 1/2/3's if possible. I know sometimes total time is strained, so that might not be possible. Also, I think having the 3's race with the 1/2's is a good idea, mostly because of the low numbers for the 1/2s. It makes for an exciting race - maybe a little more difficult for the 3's, but still I would rather race with the 1/2's any day! That's just my humble opinion though!

Thanks,
karey miles

Hi Everyone from the Cherry Blossom Classic Planning Committee!

The Cherry Blossom is a three day stage race in April in beautiful/ dry The
Dalles - we are just now meeting to decide on prize lists, distances etc, and I
wanted to get your opinion and ideas to make this an amazing event for
women to come race.

Just so you know, it looks like this will be the FIRST EVER EQUAL PAYOUT race
(that is same prize $$$ for women as men) in Oregon, so that's a good start.

I would specifically like to know:
1. Do Cat 3 racers mind racing with the 1/2s as long as they are scored
separately?

2. Do the Cat 4's want the same distances as everyone else?
so far it looks like:
Circuit Race of 40 miles cat 4's and 60 miles for the 1/2 and 3s
A 10mi TT, 30min Crit
and a Road Race of either 50 miles (all the women same distance) or 25 miles
for the Cat 4's and 50 miles for everybody else.

What else would you like to see in a stage race that would sweeten the deal
for you to come race?

I remember heated discussion regarding distances around the time of
Willamette last year, but unfortunately, I lost the email thread.

SO! Chime in! The organizers are committed to making this a women friendly
event!
Judy
