I also want to note to anyone reading this far that I fully do not understand all there is to know about BAR points...

I speculate that the BAR ranking may be related to the way BCS standings are calculated ("Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!").
It is also possible that some people believe that OBRA chat postings count towards BAR points.

While PC in more ways than one, Points Champ is not something that requires a vote. It's black and white -- most points=points champ.

What Kenji's talking about is the person or team who chooses when, where, and what category to race depending on which one will give them the Biggest Boost in the BAR. These people are not only generally sandbaggers, but they're willing and able to travel to every race in the state in order to win the Over-30, Under-200-lb, fixed gear Super D endurance category. In fact, they'll pass up the more popular races in order to attend the obscure ones so that even a DFL will give them BAR points. These are the folks you see at registration asking how many are signed up before they decide on the Cat 3 or Masters race. They're the 6'4" beanpoles who race the Clydesdale category because they're 198 and carry a water bottle.

To avoid offending anyone, let's call them something totally benign and innocent, like, I don't know, "tea bags."

I don't mean to sound like a grundy, but the "point whore" name seems
vulgar and demeaning, to me. Ladies will sometimes use that term
jokingly amongst ourselves. But in general company it doesn't sound
funny to me any more. "Point Pig" isn't as bad but maybe someone can do
better? Since these are meant as good natured, maybe there is a more
good-natured title that it could be called.

Bet ya get more nominations that way.

What Craig describes is a Barpet Bagger! OBRA members always have different opinions about things. I personally see BAR points as not very important at all. This is called niche racing.

I'm offended by the word "Grundy" in the original post.

"Fun" awards... key word is "FUN".

Not a gender specific term anymore. And I nominate Kenji for this
title from his road season exploits.

Hi Kenji --
I don't mean to sound like a grundy, but the "point whore" name seems
vulgar and demeaning, to me. Ladies will sometimes use that term
jokingly amongst ourselves. But in general company it doesn't sound
funny to me any more. "Point Pig" isn't as bad but maybe someone can do
better? Since these are meant as good natured, maybe there is a more
good-natured title that it could be called.

Bet ya get more nominations that way.
