Jim Taylor, Ph.D. (www.alpinetaylor.com) is the team psychologist for two of the world's top professional mountain bike teams, Subaru/Gary Fisher and Trek/VW. Jim works with cyclists, triathletes, runners, and swimmers of all abilities. A former alpine ski racer who competed internationally, Jim is a 2nd degree black belt in karate, a sub-3 hour marathoner, and is currently training for Ironman USA. Jim is the author of thirteen books including the Prime Sport book series and Psychological Approaches to Sports Injury Rehabilitation.
Dr. Taylor will be presenting a mini-workshop on "Mental Preparation for Cycling."
This workshop will introduce you to the psychology of cycling training and competition. You will learn the six mental areas that will either foster cycling success or lead to cycling failure. You will also learn simple and practical techniques you can use in training and competition to maximize your performance. The goal of this workshop is to train your mind for the challenges of cycling competition, so you can ride your best consistently!
The Nike Cycling Development Camp, Legends of Cycling Evening & Benefit Ride will be held at the Nike World Campus and Hagg Lake February 15-17, 2002. Geared towards cyclists of all abilities, aged 10 and over, the camp portion will be taught by some of the most well-known names in the cycling world. Camp registration limited to 100.
Meet, learn, and ride with Gary Fisher, Roland Green, Travis Brown, Alison Sydor, Nelson Vails, Julie Furtado, Thomas Prehn, Jim Taylor PhD, the Trek/VW and Subaru/Fisher Mountain Bike Racing Teams, as well as Chris Carmichael, Lance Armstrong's coach.
Associated events open to both camp participants and general public include Legends of Cycling Evening, Friday, Feb 15, 8pm Stanford Amphitheater, Tiger Woods Center. Reception with guest athletes from 5:30-7:30pm. Bike raffle, giveaways, autographs, and hors' d-oeuvres included. Legends of Cycling Benefit Ride, Saturday, Feb 16, 1pm, Hagg Lake, Forest Grove, Oregon. Net proceeds to benefit Lance Armstrong Foundation and Bicycles and Ideas for Kids Empowerment.
