This, I whole heartedly agree with.the nanny nay-sayers just crack me up.this is where political correctness starts.. with someone claiming umbrage with another's statement..if you don't like what the man had to say too bad.he had/has a valid point to express..we'd be better off concentrating our energies getting our right to safe passage respected than bicker with each other with.."ooooo don't say those bad words, they offend my ear" (well eyes in this case)..it IS our lives that are threatened every day and it is too bad that some supposed cyclist driving his truck just can't keep his big mouth shut and opinions to himself..but as I have found all too often, all too many of us and the motoring public, spend WAY, WAY too much time..living "do as I say, not as I do"
All that said.no need to apologize, brother, protect thyself first, the hell with the others and their big flapping gums.

I'd like to apologize for the bad language in my original email. I'm not, however, going to apologize for the content otherwise. From what I know about the OBRA list, the discussion of bicycle laws and safety, as well as the perspectives of riders and drivers fall well withing the content description.
I want young cyclists to be in the sport. I want their parents to feel good about them riding bikes.
I do not want a misrepresentation of riding on the road though. What happened to me today and anything I did in that situation is a fair representation of being a cyclist in the city from my perspective. Covering that up would be a lie.
I'm not gonna say it's a good or bad idea to have kids subscribe to this list. Be mindful that it is the Internet, this is 2009. It is not my responsibility to censor for others. If you feel this is unfair, please contact the administrator of this list and request that a terms agreement be added to the list subscription. Or, please request that my email be removed if you feel I am a threat to other users readership.
I am as respectful and responsible as I am willing to be. Over which spills your responsibility to know when and where to censor the materials you read.

I agree. Some team work very hard bringing kids into racing. I have them and there parents get on here so they are informed. I have already fielded 2 phone calls asking if this is a regular thing on the OBRA list. I assured both parents that this is not normal on the OBRA list. It is not easy to get parents to support kids in cycling. It is not a cheap sport. So Please, be mindfull and respectfull. Thank You

Please remember there are many young readers that visit OBRA chat. Set a good example, please.

Dear Mr. White Ford F-150,
Although you identified yourself as "a cyclist, asshole" as you yelled from the window of your car this morning, I still doubt you are on the OBRA list. Why? Well, because most cyclists would probably sympathize with trying to ride through an inch of snow, being side-swiped by every car that passed on SE 12th, and feeling the need to bend the law to get down to Eastbank Esplanade. Did I break the law? Yes. I did. I felt like it was a fair breakage, however. There were no cars on the street, and I had a sidewalk to hop onto if I enbded up head-to-head with someone for that half a block of one-way. Actually, now that I think of it, my manuever only caused one traffic hiccup....You, slowing traffic on Division to yell from your truck window. How did it go again? Oh yes:
You - "HEY THAT SAYS DO NOOOOT ENTERRR!"
Me - "GREAT!" (thumbs up)
You - "I'M A CYCLISTS TOO, ASSHOLE!"
Me - "OKAY!"
Yea, you called me an asshole. Although, I'll forgive you. I mean, you were totally looking out for my safety. Let's just call it even. I'm a law-breaker and you're a prick, we're a odd couple aren't we. Sounds like a good premise for a new show on FX. I can hear the jingle now.
Thanks,
Max
P.S. Before I get an inbox full of, "you need to obey the law to represent cyclists in a good manner," please realize I was in a dangerous situation just trying to get a safer route. I don't run reds and stops and hop sidewalks every time I ride. However, just like when I drive, I break the law on occasion.
