Dang it Russell you beat me to it!

Sorry my fellow OBRA family we tried very hard these past 6 months to find the
necessary funding to make the event happen but with the City of Portland pulling
its support and not being able to come up with a title sponsor we are forced to
postpone the event until 2010. We are focusing our attention to keep the
project going and have hopes that we can find the partners needed to make this a
reality. As all of you know we live in the most amazing state when it comes to
spectacular roads, beautiful scenery and the most incredible cycling community.
It is our goal to be able to show case this in a state wide tour and will
continue on with this dream for an event in May 2010 with one of the biggest pro
men's and the biggest pro women's races in the country. Any of you who
have friends in high places in Portland, Salem, Corvallis, and Eugene we need
you to contact them. Let them know that Oregon deserves a major tour for both
men and women. With your help we can work through
this economic slump to make this happen.

Also I want to make sure eveyone knows the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic WILL be
back in 2009 for its 7th edition. We have secured the necessary funding through
our great local sponsors like Full Sail, Taco Del Mar, Gorge Delights, Cooper
Spur etc. to make that event a reality. Dates are June 3-7th and we will have
more info and registration up next week. Thanks for all your tremendous support
and we look forward to seeing you at the races!

Sincerely,
Chad Sperry

Hey all,
Does anyone have Paul's (?) email contact? He's been the organizer
of the Port of Hood River Crit series.
I am out of town and want to contact him. I am trying to get us old Masters a
date at one of the races in that spring time series where we can have our own
race group. Anyone 50+...60+ interested in racing against your peers in a crit
this spring? Hood River is only 45mins east of PDX. If we could decide on one
of the dates, I bet I could talk Paul into giving us a seperate start of our
own..Could be fun.

Don,

Paul is out of the country for the next 6 months. He has turned the Hood
River Crit Series over to the very capable hands of Jeff Lorenzen. I have
cced him on this.

While I do feel that obra is more than fair for the membership fee and all,
it's hard to cough up $30 a race now.

On some of these races, what is the payout? A water bottle and gel? Maybe
some tires? If you charge a lot for your entry fee and 400+ people show up,
please give back something decent. Not pay 3 deep in ribbons...

I will always strive too keep my entry fees $20 and under. I am not out to
make a killing on a race but putting on a race to put prizes and $$$ into
the pockets of the riders...not mine.

Where does the barcode sticker that came in our membership envelope go? Does it
go on the back of the OBRA card? Or can I get it tattooed on my chest?

I'd appreciate some guidance on what to do with all the stuff that came in
my envelope:

--the barcode sticker
--the 3" x 1.5" yellow sticker
--the 1.5" long "2009" sticker
--the sticker that replicates/updates info on my 2008 plastic card

I think I know what to do with the plastic number plate, but maybe some of the
sharper wits here have suggestions...

TIA!

700 please. For a friend who got a nice little ride for her first road bike
but it came with a tubie wheelset. While tubies are nice, not especially
user-friendly for inexperienced riders.

So I need either an economically priced (but trustworhy) 36 hole clincher
rim (which is incredibly hard to find used around town)
OR
an economically priced (but trustworthy) 700 rear, 5 - 6 speed wheel

Rim would be ideal because she has a whole 105 group on the bike, including
hubs. I'm ranting.

Thanks OBRA

Instructions are in the first 2 paragraphs of the accompanying letter, the one
that the barcode is attached to.

Existing card holders:
1) Remove the printed label with the old license information.
2) The bar code label goes on the front of the license, in place of the old
information
3) The new license (large white label) information goes on the BACK of the
license.

JOHN CRAIG MEMORIAL WILDERNESS SKI CLASSIC
SINCE 1934

The John Craig Memorial Wilderness Ski Classic is a non competitive 35
kilometer Ski Event bounded by the Sisters Wilderness to the south and the
Mt. Washington Wilderness to the north.

The John Craig Memorial Wilderness Ski Classic is in honor of John T. Craig
who in 1877 won a contract with the U.S. Post Office to carry mail to
Central Oregon in the winter by skiing over the McKenzie Pass. Craig had
the incredible bad luck of starting his first trip feeling under-the-weather
and unknowingly headed straight into a December blizzard. His body was
found in a cabin near the summit, this event commemorates this ill-fated
adventure.

The entire route is on Old McKenzie Pass (State Highway 242) and begins on
the west side at the first snow gate by White branch Youth Camp at an
elevation of 2,450? and climbs to a high point of 5,100? near Dee Wright
Observatory at approximately 15.5 miles / 25 km and then descends 6.3 miles
to an elevation of 4080? and the finish at the east snow gate for a total
distance of 21. 8 miles / 35 km.

This is not an event for first time skiers because there are sustained
climbs, ungroomed conditions, possible adverse/severe weather conditions
(backcountry touring). Bring your 10 essentials, a partner and extra water.
It is strongly recommended that each participant be self sufficient and
prepared for a long day?s ski adventure. Skiers should be at Dee Wright
Observatory no later than 2 PM.

abilities can ski the road. Fun for the entire family!

Will...

Didn't you get the memo?

"Will Cortez must put the barcode on his hiney."

Everyone in OBRA knows that.

Heheheh.

Really, you should have a gotten the link to the OBRA letter that
gives instructions. (Unless you have my name set to SPAM- which
wouldn't be surprising. ;) )

Pull the current sticker that you have off the front of your card.
(This should be the last time that you need to pull off the sticker-
use goo gone if necessary. Put the barcode on the front. The white
sticker goes on the back.)

Carbon with aluminum steer tube, cut at 225 mm.
Came off a new 'cross bike; saw only 5 or 6 days of use.
Great condition, with the usual minor cosmetic blemishes.

$120 and it's yours.

Thanks,
Tom
