The 2009 Veloforma Norman Babcock Cat 4 Women's Series presented by Garmin is a bigger and better version of this race series launched in 2008: more generous sponsors, more supportive race promoters, and more opportunities for beginning riders to learn about the sport.
The race flyer for the series--including dates and locations of all the events--is posted on the OBRA website:
http://www.obra.org/flyers/2009/cat_4_womens_series.html
The first race in the series is Banana Belt 3, and the competition stretches through the road season all the way to the Eugene Celebration stage race.
In addition to the racing and prizes, there will be a series of post-race coaching clinics, hosted by elite riders from the Oregon peloton. At each clinic, the racer-coaches will watch the race from the lead car or other strategic location and then offer feedback on what happened during the race, what could have happened, who made the winning move, what race tactics played out during the race, etc. This is a great way for new racers to get more insight on what happens during a race. These post-race clinics will feature:
* March 15 Banana Belt 3: Russell Cree and Jeannette Rose from Upper Echelon Fitness
* May 16 Mt. Tabor: Jan Moss of Team Group Health, winner of the 2008 masters womens series on this course
* June 28 Salem-Fairview Circuit Race: Select riders from the Veloforma team
Please forward this message to your cat 4 teammates and to any women you know who are thinking about bike racing.
And of course huge thanks go to our generous sponsors:
