Perfectly stated D Grab and 175 racers showing up at an inaugural race this "early" in the season just confirms your statement!
The long course was a blast, the promoter was well organized and cool, city supportive and even the weather held out for the race. I'll be back next year for sure!

Sounds like an awesome idea...so when and where are you putting on your race?
Kudos and a great big THANK YOU to all those promoters and volunteers who do put on races when and where they can. It is very difficult to find venues, obtain the permits, plan and organize the logistics, try to fit it into an "optimal" time in the OBRA schedule, and all the while crossing your fingers that you will at least break even. We race 'cross in crappy weather, we race our road bikes in crappy weather, we live in the PNW...maybe we all need to just HTFU and appreciate the challenge of racing in less than "amazing" conditions.

...I have no problem with spacing the races out...but like others, I would like to see them start later and space them out through the summer...maybe even into the fall...when the riding is amazing.

I think it is cool to have a race that is really early like this. It gives me the ability to see where I am at in my fitness, and I still have time to remedy the problem areas.
If you start Jan. 1st you have a clean 6 week block of training. Taper down. Test race. Another clean 6 weeks. Taper down. Then race every week.
Otherwise all you get is the race every week deal.
I think it is perfect.

I think Ron was right on with this race. It was a crazy drive in February from Bend, Lots of fun and lots of pain. My only comment is why not in March. I think the organizers agree with this. This race was 9 weeks from my last cross race and 8 weeks until my next mtn race. Also we need a few more of the 55+ men out there. Ron and I touching the 60 mark and we are still going.

That was a fun start to the XC season. My back is sore, but that is my problem not that of the course. I was concerned with the rain, but the single track (and there was lots of it) was just a blast. You guys have used the land you have very well. Great trails. When does the sage bloom up there? The course was also very well marked and the volunteers were all smiles. I felt like a little kid except toward the end when I felt old and tired. Thanks to all of the people and sponsors of Red to Red. You put on a blast of a race for the season opener. It was also so great to see so many smilin' faces. Don Leet crushed the course and me. I am not surprised as he is an animal. I heard nothing but positive comments and offers of assistance between riders when on the course. I love it. Thanks to OBRA for giving us the umbrella to live this lifestyle. I would say it is too long until the next race, but I will first let my body
heal before making that call.
Next up just might be the Sunday go to Meeting.
