Re: Skyline and Cornelius Pass caution

We've seen countless reports to the OBRA list of incidents involving
buses. How many of these have been reported to police, transit or
school administration, or otherwise publicized in a coherent manner?
Preaching to the OBRA choir has limited capacity to improve cycling
safety.

I have had a Trimet bus come into my lane by the Hawthorn bridge on
SW Front without a signal. At the next stop light the driver opened
the door and shouted back that I had not signaled lane changes coming
down Barbur so why should he. Had another driver pinch me off
approaching Terwiliger & Capital Hwy and then laugh at me. Had
another one, take the bike lane I was in on Capital Hwy in Hillsdale
headed East just past BHH just so they could beat me to the bus
stop. Suspect it is the same drive who blasted her horn and was in a
fit of road rage at my wife while she was driving us in our car going
south on Capital in Hillsdale. How safe is a defenseless bike rider,
when the bus driver has a fit when a car makes a legal pass.

Some drivers are more professional than others. Just my observation. Not
all drivers (transit/school) are bad. It just so happens that the few
bad ones make everyone look bad (where have we heard THAT before?).

Despite well-known publicity to the contrary, C-Tran drivers are THE
WORST transit drivers in the area! I have a neighbor who works for
C-Tran and even she admits that C-Tran has more complaints field against
their drivers than TriMet.

Really? I've had school bus drivers follow me on Skyline for miles
because they didn't want to pass. One time, I waved them by, and the
driver used her PA to tell me she couldn't legally pass unless I got
off the road. So I did, because it's damned unnerving to have a bus
follow you for that long.

School bus drivers are a menace. LO School District is a real
problem. I have had one bus pull out in front of me at the
intersection of Terwilliger & Iron Mt. road and another pass me
across the double yellow line in the face of on coming traffic
further down Terwilliger when I was at the legal speed.

Brady-

What a scary situation for both you and your wife. You got the bus number, but did you see what school district it was from? Portland Public? Hillsboro? Or was it First Student which is a contracted company for different districts?

Contact the school district, if you saw it, or contact the Leasing/contracted company. I'm a teacher in Beaverton, and I've passed most of your note on to the Transportation folks as a gentle reminder about bikes. What complete disregard for your wife in her car though?
