Nike Cycling Development Camp, Legends of Cycling Evening & Benefit Ride



The first-ever Nike Cycling Development Camp, Legends of Cycling Evening &

Benefit Ride will be held at the Lance Armstrong Sports Center at the Nike

World Campus and Hagg Lake February 15-17, 2002. The weekend-long Camp is

geared towards cyclists of all abilities, aged 10 and over and will be

taught by some of the most well-known names in the cycling world. Camp

Registration is limited to the first 100 registrants to ensure quality of

learning and optimum interaction with the likes of Gary Fisher, Roland

Green, Travis Brown, Alison Sydor, Nelson Vails, Julie Furtado, Thomas

Prehn, the Trek/VW Mountain Bike Racing Team, as well as Chris Carmichael,

Lance Armstrong's coach, and Kenny Labbe, one of Lance's USPS teammates.



Associated events open to both camp participants and the general public

Legends of Cycling Evening, Friday, Feb 15, 8pm Stanford Amphitheater, Tiger

Woods Center: A night to remember, this unforgettable evening will include

presentations from guest athletes, keynote speaker Chris Carmichael (coach

of 3-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong), a multi-media

presentation, a Trek/b.i.k.e. kids fashion show, and an onstage trials demo.

Seating capacity for 700. Cost: $25. ADMISSION AT THE DOOR. (Cash, Check, or

An intimate reception with guest athletes will precede the presentation from

5:30-7:30pm. Bike raffle (TREK 5200), Trek and Nike Cycling Apparel raffles,

giveaways and hors' d-oeuvres included. Cost $75 for reception and

Legends of Cycling Benefit Ride, Saturday, Feb 16, 1pm, Hagg Lake, Forest

Grove: Open to all levels of cyclists, the ride will take place on the

scenic, low-traffic road that loops around Hagg Lake in Forest Grove,

Oregon. Riders will be divided into groups according to cycling experience

and distance covered (routes of 11-66 miles), with accompaniment from guest

athletes. On-road mechanical support provided by The Bike Gallery.



Trek (<www.trekbikes.com>), Nike Cycling, VeloNews (www.velonews.com) and

the Bike Gallery (www.bikegallery.com) are major sponsors of the weekend's

events. Net proceeds will benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation

(<www.laf.org>) and b.i.k.e (Bicycles and Ideas for Kids' Empowerment,

<www.kidsofbike.org>), a non-profit organization dedicated to mentoring and

coaching inner city youth.
