For general information, the Portland Parks & Recreation system has the best prices in town. Thanks to all who sent in their ideas.

You could come to the Forest Park Conservancy work day on March 21st. That would be FREE. I am a fine specimen (well kind of anyway) of a person that has never lifted weights and have pretty good upper body strength. Trail work is not only good upper body workout, but very good for flexibility. And... even if a physical therapist (or occupational therapist like Dorothy) were to chime in and tell me I was full of it, I would only agree if I knew that I was just doing the same motion for too many reps. You can vary work type when working on trails very easily. And you are outdoors in a beautiful setting. Of course it might be cold/ht at times as it is not indoors. Just my 2 cents.

A serious question. Does anyone in Portland know of a really cheap place to lift weights? I'm past 60 and I have to pump some iron to slow down the calcium loss inherent in aging and cycling. Note that I mean REALLY cheap. I'm on a fixed income.

Reply off line.

Thanks.

Matt Disman Community Center 77 NE Knott. $3-$3.50 walk-in to use the gym
and pool. It's even cheaper if you get a 10 pack or montly usage. I think
they even offer free or cheap consults with a trainer.

One of the trainers on here(seth?) can sound off on this, but you need to do weight bearing exercise like stair climbing, running, something with some impact to help with the bone density, but I'm sure the weights won't hurt.
