Will & obra land,
there is a little known, far better route to the coast (than hwy26),
that is entirely free of highways. But you won't end up anywhere near
Cannon Beach if that is important. However, if you are just looking
for a great ride to the coast w/ some camping on the way, then this is
the best route from the valley to the coast in Oregon - but
Portlanders will need to ride to the Corvallis area first.
The route is described in detail, in the Mid-Valley Spokesman news
letter, along with some interesting history (it's known as the The
Lyman Maderis Route). I haven't had the chance to ride this route in
one push, but I have ridden most of it and it is very very quiet w/
mostly excellent pavement. I regularly ride from Corvallis to
Waldport and the lobster valley road (on this route) offers 20 miles
of beautiful rolling car free riding.
I'd highly recommend this - there's really on comparison to the grungy
and very busy Hwy 26.

I was planning on riding towards Cannon Beach during Spring Break and
doing some camping...even in the rain.
I'll be towing a Burley kids trailer with my gear in it.
All I can think of is taking Hwy 26 the whole way. How dangerous is
this for those of you who have done it before?
Any alternate routes worth mentioning?
Any alternate destinations that might be better?
Thanks.
