Most of you that follow junior racing know Josh Conner. That means many
who are on this list don't. Josh is from Alturas. He is a senior in High
School, but he is a seasoned cyclist. He entered his first event when he
was five. He is a three sport athlete, starting at quarterback, pitcher
and first baseman, and on the basketball team. He's not just a jock
though. He does well academically and elected to skip road nationals
last year because he was selected to go to boys state.
Josh is an excellent Time Trialist and is coming into form that should
make him very competitive at Nationals. He finished second in the 1/2s
at the southern oregon series after he played a double header the night
before and drove from Alturas in the morning. A month later he ran/rode
in the Chico Duathalon and clocked a 28 mph bike split over 30 miles.
Here's the problem. He didn't plan on going to Nationals this year,
because its on the East coast and thus way out of the tight budget.
This is his last year to compete as a Junior. He should be very
competitive, if he can just get there. I hate to see him miss a golden
opportunity to bring another stars and stripes jersey back to Siskiyou
Velo.
If a bunch people contribute, the money will add up quickly. He needs
air fare, room and meals, and entry fee. If you can help, e-mail me and
I'll let you know where to send your check. Thanks for your
consideration.
