OBRA mountain bikers that use Scappoose trails.
Tomorrow PUMP is offering riders a chance to ride scappoose trails with leaders/trailers that know the system. If you have not ridden out there, this is a good opportunity. The groups will be divided by ability and there is also going to be a women's group led by none other than John Joy. He will take great care of all of you that show. They are meeting at the Fred Meyer Parking lot in Scappoose just before 10AM. It may be wet, slippery etc. but it is a fun place to ride and with Horning's just one week away, a place to test your technical skills. I forwarded Shane's email about parking regarding the state police and parking because all of us that use that area need to keep this in mind when we go out there to ride. I do not know Barry, who was asking about parking/his soft trail tires, but I honestly do not see how riding up from the frontage road along Hwy 30 is going to have this huge impact on his soft trail tires ( but hey. I am a true lugnut and do not change tires all season no matter the conditions... it is amazing they even work when I run them in the wrong conditions... but all my tires are round with knobs...Oh well). Try to keep vehicles parked in areas that allow plenty of room for passing traffic. This along with being uber aware of oncoming cars and making sure we are not impeding traffic by riding circles in the road while John or Jane finished unloading his/her bike will go a long way toward keeping the locals, police and others driving the road viewing the mountain bikers in a positive light. Trust me, the locals etc. provide Longview Fiber with information about what takes place out there. If you think I am totally full of it you can do the opposite of what Shane and I suggested and we can just let the chips fall where they fall. Anyway. Enjoy the rain, roots and off-camber fun.

I talked to John.

Everyone needs to meet at Fred Meyer. There might be some shuttling of
cars dependent on the level of riders. We will determine that in morning.

We need to minimize the parking at the gate area. There is limited
parking and the state police frown upon crowds of cars there because of
the blind corners and narrow road.

Hey Jordan,
Barry here. We rode together in January, I think. I'm coming from West
side of Vancouver, so won't be at Gateway, but I thought I'd stick this
message on the listserv as well the website: If anyone wants to carpool
from the Interstate Ave park/ride, I will meet you there. If No response
then I won't stop there on my way out.
Also, I strongly prefer to keep my soft trail tires off of pavement. Will
anyone frown at me if I meet at the blue gate? I know parking gets crowdy
there, but these have only lasted as long as they have because I'm picky
that way.

Barry
