Emerald Velo Announces 2002-3 Sponsors and Debuts New Team Uniform
Portland, Ore., March 1, 2002 - Emerald Velo Cycling, Inc., Oregon's top-ranked cycling team for the third consecutive year, unveiled today the team's new sponsorship line-up and uniform design. Emerald Velo is proud to announce that its sponsors for 2002 and 2003 are as follows: The Corben Institute and HUNTAIR, title sponsors; Russ Automotive Group, River City Bicycles and Cannondale, associate sponsors.
Starting with the opening of the road racing season in February, Emerald Velo will race as "Corben-HUNTAIR." This is the first time The Corben Institute and HUNTAIR have been involved in cycling. The team's uniforms will feature a gold color base, with forest green and black accents.
Emerald Velo is eager to continue its success from 2001 when the team earned a third consecutive Oregon Team BAR title and team members earned national and international championships. Chauncey Curl won two gold medals at the 2001 World Police and Fire Games held in Indianapolis. At the U.S. National Masters Road Championships in Spokane, Bill Groves and Steve Holland teamed to snare the gold in the National Masters Tandem Time Trial. To round it out, Darien Curl won a gold at the U.S. National Masters Track Championships in the Women 30-34 500 Meter Time Trial.
On the statewide level, Emerald Velo riders won Best All-round Rider awards in seven categories that highlighted the team's diversity. The members include the following: Marty Cahill, Junior 15-16; Jamie Mikami, Masters Men 30-34; Steve Holland, Masters Men 40-44; Ron Magnus, Masters Men 50-54; Del Scharffenberg, Masters Men 55-59; Lynn Holland, Masters Women 30-34; Chauncey and Darien Curl, Tandem; and Steve Holland, Masters Men Overall.
The Board of Directors of Emerald Velo Cycling, Inc. was elected at a meeting in December as follows: Joe Cipale, President; George Schreck Vice President; Steve and Lynn Holland, Treasurers; John Forbes, Secretary; John Stambaugh, Immediate Past President; Marty Cahill, Beth Whitaker, and Curt Dewees, At-Large Members.
