Kris Schamp
Hello OBRA racers,
A couple last minute updates for tomorow's race at Horning's Hideout:
1) The course is relatively dry compared to the past two years, but there are still plenty of slick/tacky mud sections where mud tires will be the best choice. There are two short sections of the course that are steep and slick and that people might end up walking, especially after a couple hundred bikes have gone through. Other than that, the course is in much better shape than the past 2 editions and I think it will even be better after the first lap. Still, this is not Bend so be prepared for some Willamette Valley/Tillamook Forest type dirt!
2) Directions: the Google map that was posted on the web site directed people over a backroad (Murphy), which is not the shortest or fastest way. I updated the link to a better map, just make sure not to take Murphy but instead go straight from Glencoe Rd - via Shadybrook Rd - to Pumpkin Ridge Rd and drive/ride about 8 miles up to Brunswick Canyon Rd.The turn-off is right after a bend in the road, so it's easy to drive by it.
3) Portland United Mountain Pedalers will be on site tomorrow, selling hot chili, both the meat and vegetarian variety. Please bring cash ($5) if you think you'll be hungry after your race and like to support MTB advocacy in the Portland area while you're at it.
Cheers,
~Kris
Any reports on moisture content in the soil from pre-riders would be appreciated, us over in the desert are clueless.
