Same thing happened to me last January. There was even a chatty 11 year old girl in the backseat who was not freaked at all but very curious and talkative while I examined my smashed bike, shoulder and rib. Dry, clear, sunny day and illegal left turn into my path. That's why I've started using a day time running light on my commutes. I don't care how annoying it is, I can tell it makes a difference.
Best wishes to John.

They stopped, which was pretty inevitable as he smashed his grill out. The 11 year old in the passenger seat seemed pretty freaked out, and rightly so. I did not meet the driver but was told he was there. Police were taking statements when I left, and as I did not witness it didn't take one from any of our group. Looked like a simple case of driver not seeing or underestimating the speed of a descending bike and turning left in front of him.
Best wishes to John, that was an ugly-looking break.

So what of the driver who pulled in front of him?
