As an ex-Cat. 2,my advice would be to do just go w/
the flow. Chances are the guy in front of u is
reacting to the guy in front of him and so on. As long
as nobody over reacts and keeps a cool head all will
be fine. Give the people in front of u the benefit of
the doubt because u don't know whats happening in
front of them. Don't panic, keep cool and all will be

Eric, Kevin:
I apologize. I called somebody an "a__ hole" Sunday
in the 3s race.
Somebody asked "is that his new name? Or his old
one?" It was funny. We
were going up the last hill and whoever he was
decided to swing from the
white line on the right to the yellow line on the
left - - for no reason.
We were at least 10 riders back. He was not passing
anyone. He was not
attacking. He was not sprinting for the win. All
he did was make a bunch
of guys behind him hit their brakes because he
decided to swing across the
lane.
In that situation, I think we are both at fault. I
should not have sworn.
I admit I over-reacted to having to hit my brakes
while climbing. Yet, I
think he made a dangerous move at a time when it was
totally uncalled for.
But let's not over-react. We are amateurs. We do
this for fun. Some of us
are just 3s out there still learning and having a
good time. As long as we
all stay upright, and have fun . . .

I completely disagree. Riding safe needs to be the
#1 priority of every
racer in the peleton. this means that you ride a
straight line and when you
are going to deviate from this that you make sure
that your actions do not
cause a crash behind you. Drop-Kicking, erratic
behaviour, trying to get
inbetween people when the gap is too small, etc,
isn't good for anyone. I'd
take a guess that 95+% of crashes are caused by bad
biking, not some
environmental aspect.
When you make it to the pro's, then you can play
the 'who ever wins is
right' game--I'm sure you will have lots of friends
in the pro peleton.

I heard a lot of "hold your line, ***hole!" this
weekend while racing.
Something I read by Ferretti once was "who ever
wins is right" regarding
holding your line. I heard a variation on that this
weekend when someone
said "who ever is in front is right". I did see
some twitchy riding this
weekend but I also heard a few people demanding the
rider in front to hold
their line in inappropriate situations. If you are
sprinting to the line
and
I am trying to come around you, then isn't it my
challenge to find the way
around without asking you to stay in the same spot?
I mean you are trying
to get around the guy in front of you too. is this
not part of sprinting,
how can I ask you to stay behind that guy so I have
a cleaner line? I don't
think I can!
