Subject: [WSBA] West Side Omnium - 1st weekend in May

Hey all,

As we rapidly approach the first weekend in May and a guarantee for better racing weather (OK hope would be a better word, no guarantees!) - the challenging West Side Omnium is looming on your racing calendar.

Registration:
Is now open at Sports Base Online ( http://new.sportsbaseonline.com/sbo/events/index.xhtml?categoryId=2305&dir=right&conversationId=17777 ).  I encourage all Cat 5 Men & Cat 4 women to pre-register to guarantee a start spot since these fields may fill up prior to race day (limited by USAC rules to 50 racers tops).

OBRA racers CAT 3/4/5 may purchase 1-day license for each race, please bring OBRA license with you.

As an enticement to everybody who registers online (for the Omnium or Glenwood RR) - you will be automatically entered in a drawing for our raffle which presently includes a pair of unrestricted Alaska Airline tickets (a $1700 value).  Day of race registrants are not automatically entered but may purchase raffle tickets for additional cost.  Everybody may purchase additional raffle tickets at day of race to enhance their chances of winning raffle prizes. Drawing will be held at end of day of Glenwood RR, you need not be present to win.  Registrants for Longbranch Classic RR only are not included in this raffle.

When:
Saturday May 2nd is the Glenwood RR , near Port Orchard - host for the WA State Elite (or Senior) Championship RR.
Sunday May 3rd is the Longbranch Classic RR , on Key Peninsula - a WA Cup race.

Both races have combined operations for an omnium format (if you so choose), though you only need to participate in 1 race to earn omnium points.  Race one or both - top point placers earn greatest share of prize package.

Race Specifics:
Web site - www.WestSideO.blogspot.com
Race Flyer - http://gcracingllc.com/Documents/2009_West-Side-Omnium.pdf

Course descriptions:
Glenwood RR - with a 2 mile lead in to a 15+ mile mostly rolling loop with a few short hills and false flats - finish is up short and sweet G Spot Hill (a 150 meter 14% grade)  http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wa/port-orchard/276500997601

Longbranch Classic RR - course is a 10.5 mile rolling loop with one steep 1/2 mile climb and 2 gradual 1/4 mile climbs  http://www.mapmyride.com/ride/united-states/wa/-longbranch/194178935378

Prize package:
Is currently worth approximately $5000 cash distributed to most categories between both daily and omnium races with lots of additional merchandise (worth $2000) for remaining categories.  Even at this late date we continue to attract sponsors so the prize package may increase (view web race site for latest info).

Host Hotel:
Day's Inn is very close to the Glenwood RR right off Hwy 16.  They have set aside 20 rooms for racers until April 17th.  Rooms are $78 for a single, $83 for a double. Reserve early, reserve often! ( http://www.daysinn.com/DaysInn/control/Booking/property_info?propertyId=14080&brandInfo=DI ) or call 360-895-7818; ask for bike race discount.
