Equipment for a track newbie?

They will be OK for the class. I would suggest thinking about running a toe
strap through them and over you foot before racing on them.

Subject: [OBRA Chat] Equipment for a track newbie?

Hey all,

I'm going to give track a try this summer.

I have a question about shoes and pedals. All I have are off-road shoes and
Eggbeater and Candy pedals.

Will these do for the Wednesday night track classes or will I need to get
something else?

Please tell me Dominator 5's and Eggbeaters are okay until I can afford a
track bike. Which will be next year. Maybe.

(Not really--- I can handle the truth.)

Thanks!
Brian J.

They'll be just fine. Ignore the sprinters who say otherwise, as they
use clips and straps. You already know how to ride with those pedals,
so you won't be unclipping at the drop of a hat, and you'll be able to
get out of them when you mistakenly ride onto the infield and are
about to fall over. If the cleats are really old, you might consider
replacing them.
