Norco Recalls Havoc Bicycles Due to Risk of Injury

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: 2011 Havoc Bicycles

Units: About 90

Manufacturer: Norco Bicycles, a division of LTP Sports Group Inc., of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada.

Hazard: The bicycle frame can crack at the joint where the top tube meets the down tube. A cracked tube can separate and cause the rider to lose control, posing a risk of injury or death.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received three reports of cracked frames. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves 2011 Havoc 24-inch and 26-inch bicycles. The 24-inch bicycles were sold in semi-matte grey and the 26-inch in semi-matte red. On some of the bicycles, "Norco" is printed on the firm's crest that is affixed to the head tube. Bicycle frames included in this recall have serial numbers that begin with K10DQ, K10FQ, K10IQ, K10KQ P10K, P10F or P11B. The serial number is stamped on the underside of the bottom bracket, below the word "Havoc."

Sold at: Authorized Norco dealers nationwide from November 2010 to September 2011 for about $600.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bike and return it an authorized Norco dealer for a replacement.

Bicycles Recalled by Wilier Triestina Due to Fall Hazard; Bicycle Fork's Steerer Tube Can Break

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Izoard XP Bicycles

Units: About 200

Importer: Wilier Triestina USA LLC, of Atlanta, Ga.

Hazard: The bicycle fork's steerer tube can break while in use, posing a fall hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Description: This recall involves Wilier Triestina model Izoard XP bicycles or framesets that were sold with carbon/alloy forks with serial numbers between LH0001 and LH4000. The serial number is located on the steerer tube of the fork, around six inches from the crown. Bicycles purchased before January 2012 are not included in this recall.

Sold at: Bicycle retailers nationwide from January 2012 through October 2012 for about $2,600 for the bicycle.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled bicycles immediately and have an authorized Wilier bicycle dealer check for the serial number on the fork and, if it is included in the recall, the dealer will install a new Izoard replacement fork at no charge.

Shimano Recalls to Repair PRO VIBE Bicycle Handlebars Due to a Fall Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of product: PRO VIBE Carbon bicycle handlebars

Units: About 67

Importer: Shimano American Corporation, of Irvine, Calif.

Manufacturer: Great Go Cycles Inc., of Taiwan

Hazard: The recalled handlebars can break during riding, posing a fall hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recalled bicycle handlebars, intended for high-end road racing bikes, are compact and drop-shaped . The handlebars are sold separately and they have two labels with "Pro Vibe" logo directly printed on them. The model number appears on the bar code sticker on the packaging and serial numbers are printed on a label inside the tube of the handlebar. The recalled model numbers are: PRHA0099, PRHA0102, PRHA0103, PRHA0105 and PRHA0106. The affected serial codes are: JE028ZG, JE101ZG, JE106ZG, JF081ZG, JF102ZG, JG048ZG, JH006ZG and JH077ZG.

Sold by: Bicycle specialty stores and dealers nationwide from June 2011 through April 2012 for about $370.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles with the recalled handlebars and contact Shimano for information about obtaining a free replacement from an authorized retailer in their area.

Specialized Bicycle Components Expands Recall of Bike Brake Levers Due to Crash Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Bicycle Brake Levers

Units: About 100 (about 600 of the 2010 and 2011 Shiv Modules and 2012 Shiv TT modules were recalled in April 2012).

Importer: Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., Morgan Hill, Calif.

Hazard: The adjuster cap and brake cable can slide out of position and make the brakes non-operational. This can cause a rider to lose control of the bicycle and crash.

Incidents/Injuries: Specialized is aware of one incident worldwide in which the rider lost the function of both brakes. The firm has received no reports of injury or property damage.

Description: This recall includes Tektro TL-83 brake levers sold on 2012 S-Works Shiv bicycle frame modules, 2012 S-Works Shiv TT bicycle frame modules, and sold as aftermarket service parts for these modules. The TL-83 is a version of the TL-720 brake lever, modified with a quick release slot at the top of the lever arm and designed exclusively for use with aerodynamic handlebars (aerobars) sold as original equipment on these modules. They are black aluminum and model number "TL-720" can be read on the side of the lever arm when braking action is applied.

Sold at: Authorized Specialized Bicycle Components retailers from May 2011 to June 2012. The bicycle frame modules sold for between $5,500 and $6,100. The brake levers sold for about $80 as service parts.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop riding modules equipped with TL-83 brake levers and return the levers or modules to an authorized Specialized Bicycle Components retailer for free replacement brake levers.

Fuji Recalls Women's Cruiser Bicycles Due to Fall Hazard

Name of Product: Fuji Saratoga Women's Bicycles

Units: About 10,500

Importer: Advanced Sports Inc. of Philadelphia

Hazard: The bicycle's frame can break in the center of the downtube during use, causing the rider to lose control and fall.

Incidents/Injuries: The company is aware of 12 reports of bicycle frames breaking, including two injuries, a head laceration requiring 20 stitches and scrapes and bruises.

Description: The recalled bicycles are Fuji women's cruiser bicycles. The 2008 through 2010 models Saratoga 1.0, Saratoga 2.0, Saratoga 3.0 and Saratoga 4.0 are included. The bicycles are various colors. "Fuji" and "Saratoga" alone or "Saratoga" along with the model number is printed on the frame of the bicycle. Serial numbers beginning with ICFJ7, ICFJ8, ICFJ9, ICFJ10 and ICFJ11 are included in this recall. The serial number is located on the bottom of the frame near the crank:

Sold by: Specialty bicycle stores nationwide from November 2007 through December 2011 for between $300 and $500.

Remedy: Consumers should stop riding the recalled bicycle immediately and return it to any authorized Fuji Bicycle dealers for a free replacement frame.

Shimano Recalls PRO Atherton Mountain Bike Handlebar Stems Due to Fall Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Mountain Bicycle Handlebar Stem

Units: 213 in the United States; 83 in Canada

Manufacturer: Post Moderne Corporation, Taiwan

Importer: Shimano American Corporation, Irvine, Calif.

Hazard: The bolts holding the front plate of the stem to the stem body can be pulled out of the threads while the bike is being ridden, causing the rider to lose control of the bike and fall.

Incidents/Injuries: Shimano has received one report of an incident in which the rider fell and received torso and arm injuries.

Description: This recall involves PRO Atherton direct mount bicycle handlebar stems with the model number PRSS0049 and supplied from October 2009 to November 2010. The stem consists of a metal alloy body and front plate and four alloy bolts. The stem body is black with red markings. It has the word "PRO" in four places on the sides and the word "Atherton." The front plate is black and silver with the PRO logo in the center. The model number is located on the barcode sticker on the backside bottom of the packaging material. Stems with the following identification codes are being recalled: HH, HJ, HK, HL, IA, IC, ID, IE and IF. Some of these stems were outfitted with 18mm bolts instead of 21mm bolts. The identification code is located on the stem body where the handlebars are seated.

Sold at: REI, bicycle specialty stores and dealers nationwide from October 2009 to November 2010 for about $120.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using bicycles with PRO Atherton handlebar stems and take them to an authorized retailer to determine if the stem on their bike is subject to the recall. Authorized retailers will replace 18mm bolts with 21mm bolts free of charge.

Distributor: Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., of Morgan Hill, Calif.

Manufacturer: Advanced Group, of Taiwan

Hazard: The brake component housed within the bicycle's carbon fork can disengage from the fork and allow the brake assembly to contact the wheel spokes while rotating, posing a fall hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: The company has received two reports of the brake component disengaging from the carbon fork. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the following nine, 2011 model year bicycles with Advanced Group carbon forks: Sirrus Expert, Sirrus Comp, Sirrus Elite, Vita Expert, Vita Comp, Vita Elite, Vita Elite Step Thru, Tricross Sport, Tricross, and Tricross Comp. All bicycles have the brand name "Specialized" on the lower front frame tube. The model name is on the top tube.

Sold at: Authorized Specialized Retailers nationwide from June 2010 through August 2011 for between $700 and $2,000.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop riding these bicycles and return them to an authorized Specialized retailer for a free repair or replacement carbon fork.

Hazard: The bicycle chain can break, causing a rider to lose control and fall.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm is aware of 11 reports of incidents, including nine reports of injuries, including lacerations and contusions.

Description: This recall involves "NEXT"-branded men's 26-inch hybrid bicycles. The bicycles are red or orange. "Power X" and "Suspension" are printed on the frame. Model numbers LBH2611M and LBH2611M2 are included in this recall. The model number is located on the frame between the pedals.

Sold at: Walmart from February 2011 through July 2011 for about $100.

Felt Bicycles Recalls Bicycles Due to Fall Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: 2011 Felt Adult bicycles

Units: About 1,550 units

Importer: Felt Bicycles, of Irvine, Calif.

Manufacturer: ADK Technology Limited of Guang Dong, China

Hazard: The bicycle's fork can break, causing the rider to lose control, fall and suffer injuries.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recall includes all 2011 Felt F3, F4, F5 and F75 bicycles with carbon fiber frames and carbon fiber forks.
 * 2011 F3 - These bicycles are satin carbon/satin white with red decals.
 * 2011 F4 - These bicycles are satin carbon/satin white with grey decals.
 * 2011 F5 - These bicycles are satin carbon/satin red or matte black with diamond shape design.
 * 2011 F75 - These bicycles are gloss navy.
"Felt" is written across the down tube of the bicycle frame.

Sold at: Bicycle specialty stores nationwide from July 2010 through November 2010 for between about $1,400 and $5,000 per bicycle.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and contact their local Felt Bicycles dealer to receive a free inspection and repair.

REI Recalls Bicycles Due to Fall Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Name of Product: Novara Fusion Bicycles

Units: About 160

Importer: REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) dba Novara, of Kent, Wash.

Hazard: The alloy steerer tube could separate from the fork causing the rider to lose control, posing a fall hazard to consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of a steerer tube detaching. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves Novara Fusion bicycles with serial numbers U95Y07321, U96Y28393, or in the sequential range of the last four digits U96Y28876 through U96Y29128. Serial numbers are located on the underside of the bike. The espresso-colored bicycles were sold in two styles, the Step Through and the Fusion. The Step Through was sold in extra small/small, while the Fusion was available in medium, large, and extra large.

Sold exclusively at: REI stores nationwide and at REI.com from November 2009 to November 2010 for between $600 and $900.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop riding the bicycles and contact their local REI store or the REI customer service center to arrange for a replacement fork to be installed free of charge.

Name of Product: Specialized 2009 Model Bicycles

Units: About 14,000

Importer: Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., of Morgan Hill, Calif.

Hazard: The handlebars can break, posing a fall hazard to the rider.

Incidents/Injuries: Specialized has received two reports of the
handlebar breaking during use, one of which caused a rider to suffer
head trauma which resulted in unconsciousness and a puncture wound to
the arm.

Description: This recall involves HL handlebars on the following 2009
Specialized bicycles: Cross Trail Comp, Myka HT Comp, Myka HT Elite,
Rockhopper, Rockhopper Comp and Rockhopper Comp 29. The model number of
the HL handlebar is ALR-13 NTFOV and is located underneath the right
hand grip of the handlebar.

Sold by: Authorized dealers nationwide from June 2008 through February
2009 for between $640 and $1,050.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop riding these bicycles and
contact a Specialized dealer for a free replacement handlebar.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in

recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using
recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: 2004 Roubaix Comp and Roubaix Pro bicycles

Units: About 3,000

Importer: Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., of Morgan Hill, Calif.

Hazard: The cable stop on the bicycle can loosen, which can cause the
rider to lose control and fall from the bike.

Incidents/Injuries: Specialized received reports of two falls that
resulted in fractures requiring medical attention and surgery.

Description: The recalled bicycles are as follows: 2004 Roubaix Comp 18,
2004 Roubaix Comp 27, 2004 Roubaix Pro 18, and 2004 Roubaix Pro frameset
models. Only bicycles with a single rivet fastening the cable stop to
the frame are subject to recall. The cable stop is attached through
bonding materials and a single rivet mounted at the front of the
bicycle. The cables pass through eyelets in the cable stop on the down
tube. Bicycles with a double rivet fastening the cable stop to the frame
are not subject to recall. The model names of the recalled bicycles can
be found on the top tube of the bicycles.

Sold by: Specialized authorized dealers nationwide from September 2003
through August 2004 for between $1,600 and $4,000.

Manufactured in: Taiwan

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using their bicycle and return
their bicycle to a Specialized authorized dealer for an approved repair,
at no cost to consumer.
