Hello,
Get your spin ready for the 2009 OBRA State Championships and the 21st Peak
Sports Mudslinger on Sunday 5/3
Thanks to all of your support. The Blodgett Summit Grange is assisting with
the event and I hope to raise 1000.00 for them with your participation
The race
This is the 15th year that I have put this race on and for one special year
the course has changed to include 1 main TOE 50 Trail (Supertree) to start
you out on after a 2.5 mile and 650 ft of climbing from the start
Open roads....I do not expect any activity, but if someone gets hurt, we
will need to get into the course, so always take care on the fireroads.
Cat 3 riders 12 miles and 1700 ft of climbing
Gravel road climbs and singletrack/doubletrack descents
Great course!
Estimated finish times 1 hr to 1.5 hrs for most racers
Cat 2, Cat 1 and Pro.....all
24 miles and 3800 ft
tough course.....fun with steady climbing
Gravel road climbs, 14 sections of Singletrack and double track and lots of
fun
Finish times Just under 2 hrs for the Pro winning time and 2.15 to 3 hrs for
most participants
The gear to bring
The weather report says 65 and 40% chance.....so in the am at 10am it will
be 52 and whatever for rain.....who really knows
The trails are excellent as of today...we rode the course saturday and it
was pretty darn dry.
Bring a front fender......race day decision to use it....but you should
bring one
Also downtube fenders work well also
Wear a base layer......keeps the chill off
maybe glove liners...I like them
Wool socks......think ones are nice
Bike wash is planned by local fire department
Semi-slicks are OK....if its dry, but a tire like a Specialized Captain with
some bite will take you off of some of the rocky flat sections without a
flat and provide you with a little bit more protection on some parts of the
course.
*The course
* Cat 3, all others do all of these trails, some twice
*Trails.....*Supertree 1st part is a bit technical, second part is super
fast! with a ditch......will be marked.....ride on the right side when going
over the ditch
*Upper short cut (uphill trail)
steep.....if dry you can ride 90% of this short trail. Cat 3 riders do this
trail once and all others do this 2 times
*Collarbone alley..all riders....little rain diversions are on this super
doubletrack hwy lift your front wheel over these if you have the skills or
bunny hop with care going 25-30 mph
First trail......15 miles in....little trail....quick diversion from the
gravel climb
Sidehill trail.......18 miles in......wonderful trail a pleasure to ride
The decent off of sidehill is slick and off-camber.....not dangerous
Slip N SLide.....if raining...the mud will spray
Root down......not too rooty, but just enough to keep you honest with a few
little drops.....feel the flow
*Panama canal.......This trail is the last trail and Cat 3 riders do it once
and all others do it twice. At the end of this trail the sign (At 9 miles
from the start))says finish to the left 1.8 miles and Lap to the right where
all riders except cat 3's do the second part of the course( 13 miles of 24)
