There are ample volunteers available to "sweep" the
course at any given race. When I use to do Cat1,2
races I was often given the gift of being in a group
of 1 . . . off the back. My race was over and when I
came across garbage I'd pick it up.
My thinking is that most garbage is accidental and the
quicker it's picked up the less likely a community
member with an "axe to grind" is given a stone to
grind it with.
Most races (not just 1,2s) have people getting
dropped. If you're one of these people (and you
really think your out of contention) you can instantly
volunteer by sweeping the course. You may find
yourself the proud owner of a slightly used,
Cyto-sticky water bottle !
