Elkhorn Press Release #4 - April Updates
For Immediate Release:

Welcome to the 8th Annual Elkhorn Classic Stage Race - Update #4

Elkhorn World Headquarters - Baker City, OR - 28 April, 2009 - www.ElkhornClassic.com -

Yes Virginia, there were reports of snow still up on Dooley Pass this past weekend and yes it did snow yesterday, but who doesn't love green countryside?  Local riders in Baker City rode the course to prepare for the visitors from across the western US and Canada to take on the eighth annual Elkhorn Classic, June 19 - 21 in Baker City, OR. Now with less than two months to go, Elkhorn organizers would like to provide everyone with some news and updates as the snow melts to give way to racing!

First off, thank you again to the members of SouthTown Velo sponsored by Environmental Business Solutions and based in Portland, Oregon, who have accepted the challenge to be the OBRA team sponsor for the Elkhorn Classic providing support and volunteers.

Next, I am proud to announce the formation of Baker Loves Bikes, a
local community-led committee currently seeking 501(c)3 status with the
goal of promoting all things cycling in and around Baker City, OR.
Baker Loves Bikes is doing what its name says:  working with teams,
groups, and clubs to encourage active cycling while raising community
awareness through local and state programs, and led by its flagship
event, the Elkhorn Classic.  For anyone who has raced the 'Horn, it is
obvious the city indeed loves bikes and to see it progress to the next
level is something special indeed, so come on out and help support the
city that supports cycling.

As previously mentioned, Elkhorn
will be the host event for the OBRA stage race championships, open to
all OBRA members holding an annual racing license. This is the first
offering of this championship so categories will include men and women
Cat 1/2, Cat 3, Cat 4/5, Masters 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, and 60 and
older. Men's winners will be scored by their entry category, but all
women 40+ will automatically receive scoring in both their Category and
Masters fields.

For those on a budget, host housing in
several different flavors is available for women only, couples, single
and mixed gender teams on a first come, first served basis. No
guarantees, but some local people are trying to help out racers as best
they can. On a related note, a reminder that there is a team discount
for single and mixed gender teams; teams must all be all be wearing the
same team uniform (in other words, it's a team discount, not a group
discount). Contact us for details on what we can do for you and your
team!

Understanding the current economic times, we would like
to invite you to send suggestions and comments on what we can do to
help make your race a better event. Also a reminder that you can
receive a reduced entry by providing a support vehicle and driver or a
feedzone volunteer for the Friday and/or Sunday road stages. Let us
know if you or your family are interested in being a part of the race.

We are currently looking for photographers, videographers, and anyone interested in sending a daily recap to VeloNews.com along with a photo.  VeloNews would be happy to provide photo credit and a byline to the exciting Elkhorn story!

Registration continues at a steady pace and things are falling into
place as the race draws near.  Thanks to everyone who is helping to
make this race possible!

Ride safe, have fun, see you in Baker City!
