Richard Haight
Greetings,
Its hard to believe its already time for the Road Race Championships. Three weeks from today we have the Rehearsal Road Race and four weeks out is the OBRA Road Race. As you know these are both championship events and the highlight of the 2009 road season.
The course is now three years running, debuting as a single day event in 2007 and then as last years championship venue. We have consistently received great reviews and hope you also enjoy this scenic, classic road race.
The course is in about as good of shape as last year, so there are a few rough spots, and "the corner" is still there. We'll have it swept out just like we have in the past, and advise that you look at "the corner" on race day prior to your event. Race Announcement is available at :

Two items of business:
1) Junior Races -- An initial decision caused us to move the junior events to the May 23rd date. Since then circumstances have changed and, as well, I have heard from some juniors that they would like to have the juniors 15-16 and 17-18 category run on the May 30th date so they could participate in the May 23rd event as categorized racers. In the past a change like this was allowed by OBRA with a vote from the peloton.
I am asking OBRA their position on this and may not be able to change, but in the meantime - right now - I need to hear from the Juniors 15 -16 and 17 - 18. Please email me now, which date you prefer. Note that these two categories will not be split across the two dates - its one or the other, so chime in. Also please note that I do not intend to change the date for the Juniors 10 -12 and 13 -14.
2) Volunteers -- We have a great network of friends that come and help with our events. From my vantage point, its thanks to volunteers that there is racing in Oregon. However, this event does require considerable numbers and I'm therefore looking for a little help.
Volunteers receive free entry for themselves or a fellow racer into either event, and lunch, coffee, muffins, etc. There is need on both of the dates. If you have a friend who might help while you race, or only plan to do one of the two events and would like to do it for free, please contact me as soon as you can.
One last thing -- I know the current economic climate has affected us all. This region, however, has been hit particularly hard. If you could plan to fill your tank or grab a bite, in Rainier Oregon, it would really mean something to the community. As well, you could donate to Rainier School who has again graciously opened their doors in support of bicycle racing. We'll have a place to donate on site.
We look forward to presenting you with another successful, well organized event, and thank you for your participation.
Sincerely,
Richard Haight
