Kori Kunz
Hey all you women 4s who raced the Icebreaker--I just wanted to repeat how impressed I was with the overall level of racing and thank you for coming out.
I also wanted to mention one other bit of advice: when attacking, remember that catching your competition by surprise and getting up to speed before you pass them (so they can't just jump on your wheel) is the main goal. In order to do this effectively you need to be far enough back in the pack to get out, get going fast, and fly by--if you're in the front 3 or 4 riders everyone can see you shifting and getting ready, and (unless you have an amazing jump) you don't really have enough space to get up to speed and get a gap on the group. It's also helpful, for the surprise element, to try attacking in different places on the course--sometimes right before the third corner is better than right before the last corner (or right before the last corner instead of right after it) because the field might not expect it just then.
Anyway, hope that's helpful. The Poplollies will be putting on a women's crit series for 3 Mondays in July so I hope all of you local gals will come out for that--and any non-locals who want to make the drive--we'd love to see you too.
Happy racing,
Kori
