Women and Racing

Rachael
Good for you. My first few times at PIR they only had 1 field and we had to
ride with the senior women that showed up. I struggled to even finish 1 lap
with the field. Each week I would set another goal. "This week I will get to
the back stretch, etc" But it got easier and more fun every time I showed
up. It is really wonderful that we can offer the beginners their own field
and have experienced riders that will ride with them.

I attended PIR for the first time last night and was in the novice field. I
was so happy to have had a positive and supportive first racing experience.
Even though I could only stay with the pack for the first 4 laps :|

The mentors that rode with use were wonderful. I think that experience
highlights the best aspects of Women's Racing. Another rider in the regular
women's field told me of the women who were barking out orders and retorts.
I couldn't help but think that if that had been my first exposure to racing
I would have had a very different opinion of road racing. I think that no
mater what field we are in, we are always ambassadors of our sport, our
peers, and our selves. The mentors that road with us Novices were role
models of this. Thanks!
