Another idea

But, you also could have enough women to have an entire field of Cat
3's, which could include master's women racers so we don't have to race
with brand new 4's (it gets harder to heal up fast when you crash when
you're older). The faster 3's can upgrade to Cat 1/2. The big bulge in
the 4's would be gone (possibly split about evenly between the 3's and
4's). I hope it works out.

Wouldn't this make doing a Cat IV series a little more difficult? In
my barely more than a season's worth of experience it seems to me that
the series has brought out more IV's than anything. Maybe use the
same principle but bulk it up a bit? Experience in 17 mass starts and
20 points? That way a IV could at least get a whole season of series
plus other local gigs. It looks like an idea worth exploring, but if
the bar is set low then you end up with a gaggle of even less
experienced III's in the same field as I/II's. Seems that if this is
a new policy, then separating the III's is an even more enticing
option long term.

This idea just floated across my e-mail.

What would you ladies think about changing the upgrade requirements
for Cat 4 women to be the same as Cat 5 Men? I'm thinking through the
practical ramifications but just wanted to throw this into the mix.
There are likely issues of reciprocity, mandatory upgrades etc. but
wanted to get some initial thoughts. I haven't had time to think
through the positives and/or negatives so I haven't a chance to form
an opinion.

They currently are:

Guidelines and Notes by Category:
5→4: Experience in 10 mass start races or 15 points.
4→3: 20 points in the previous 12 months; or experience in 25 races. 30
points in 12 months is an automatic upgrade.
3→2: 25 points in the previous 12 months
40 points in 12 months is an automatic upgrade
2→1: 30 points in the previous 12 months
50 points in 12 months is an automatic upgrade
