6:00 alarm goes off. Check through the window, there is at least 1 1/2 -2
inches of snow on the ground, go back to bed
6:10 still no phone call cancelling the race, reluctantly get up and in the
shower
6:20 dress, ski socks, long johns, (you get the drift)- still no phone call
6:30 load car with all race needs - still no call
6:35 wake son (also an official) still no call
6:36 leave house, road covered, check cell phone for charge
7:00 driving through Portland, not as much snow as Gresham but still
snow. Call myself to check phone is working
7:30 Arrive in Forest Grove, skies cloudy but see some possible
lightening. Stop for breakfast Big Gulp- No phone call still
7:35 Drive into the park. The trees around the lake are dusted with
snow. Looks like one of those lots with flocked trees, skies clearing,
Cell phone won't be getting a signal soon might as well proceed.
7:40 not quite at the parking lot in car temperature gauge measures the
outside temperature at 33, wonder how long before we can head for home
7:45 Skies clearing, phone rings, but you can't get service in the Park,
arrive at staging area. There are actually riders here!
8:00 Riders keep coming, each more dumbstruck then the first, this might
actually happen
9:00 First race is suppose to start but some of the corner marshalls have
not shown, did they think this wasn't going to happen, how silly!
9:10 We're racing
3:30 Head for home
6:35 Results in the computer time for down time
Actually had to break out the sun glasses a couple of times, was a very
nice day. Just goes to show you that you will miss some of the good days
if you don't go to all the days
