The junior who flatted on the dam was, 14 year old, Ricky Bossen. He had brand new race shoes (his first pair). He knew that he better not walk in them (he wears Mt. shoes for his fixed gear commute to/from high-school). He figured he would make it to the finish line. I do not think he really knew how far the finish was (his computer was not yet working). Ernie Conway stopped and gave Ricky a wheel so he could ride in.
This brings me to a few points. I work with the TeamBossen Juniors, who are part of TeamOregon . These young racers are Mikkel Bossen's younger cousins (10 to 14 years of age) that began racing because of Mikkel. Thursday's Oregonian will have an article about 4 of the kids.
The kids need spare wheels. Gateway Bicycle has agreed to give us a really good deal on some rims if we can come up with some hubs to build spare wheels for the kids. We need both race wheels and training wheels. We also need some fixed gear wheels for commuter bikes for more of the kids.
We are still in need of small race worthy bikes for the younger short kids. They no longer have to share bikes but most of them are still riding really heavy bikes.
Some of larger kids now have decent bikes. Thanks to all who have given us good deals on bikes for the kids. We could use more.
The Bossen Family is putting on the Estacada Time Trials (THIS SUNDAY 24 March!!! and 28 April) as a fund raiser for the kids. Last year we were able to pay the kids race fees for part of the summer. This year we hope to do more-- like help pay Mikkel's way to larger races. COME OUT AND RACE!
Several people have said that they would volunteer to help out this Sunday. Please contact me GeriB-@hotmail.com or 503-254-7563 (new number). Anyone else who wants to help out please contact me. We will work it out so you can still race.
Thanks
Geri Bossen (Mikkel's Mom)

just wanted to say thanks to the officials who braved 60 degree temps, cold rain, and snow to make the series a success. also thanks to jeff mitchem. any promoter who rides a serotta w/ flat bars is okay in my book. big ups to the junior who took off his shoes to walk to the finish after flatting on the dam and the person who raced a full suspension mountain bike.
