NorthWest Trails Association is scheduling some work parties up at Mount St helens. Since I have thursday/fridays off they have been scheduled for those days, except one. The first several work parties will concentrate on repairing storm/weather damage to the Loowit Trail crossing the Plains of Abraham (part of the Ape Canyon Trail system), we will then move our efforts over to Sheep Canyon and the Loowit Trail south of the South Fork of the Toutle River on the west side of the mountain. The area on the west side is in need of a lot of work. Those trails are spectacular and a bit more challenging than the Ape Canyon on the east side. NWTA is teaming up with the Mount St Helens Institute to do a work party on the Toutle and Butte Camp Trails on the south-west side of the Mountain on July 18 & 19. This work party is billed as a back-packing/bike camping trip, but you are encouraged to help out for a day if unable to do both. RSVP should be to the MSHI website: https://ww
w.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/ap?AP=1048631276&OR=1&Embedded=ON.
Dates for upcoming work parties are:
June 19, 25, 26: Plains of Abraham.
June 28 (Sunday) location to be announced. May be on the Plains, or on the west side of the mountain.
July 3 and 10: West side of the mountain - Sheep Canyon or Loowit (south of South Fork Toutle River).
July 18 and 19th Toutle and Butte Camp Trails with NWTA and MSHI.
The June 25th trip will see several Bike Gallery employees working on the trail. Are there any other bike shop employees (or anyone else too!) who could join us on that day?
Car poolers will be encouraged to leave Portland about 8:00A to meet up in Cougar about 9-9:30A. RSVP's are required so I can obtain the proper number of tools for everyone. Hope to see some of you out there,
David Anderson
