Thank you all for your input. Some of the responses were downright funny as well - see Cobra Kai...who clearly forgot that Daniel-san's crane kick will triumphantly defeat any and all attacks. So, like I implied, final results (of emails with clear answers):
21 votes that: a deal's a deal, caveat emptor, items stay where they are, etc.
1 vote to return items
1 vote "on the fence"...which I guess really isn't a vote
2 votes for a cash settlement..which as stated before, will not happen.
...and plenty of opinions.
