“BEND BIKE MOVE” DEMONSTRATES THE POWER OF BIKES
Many hands make light work of relocating
BEND, OREGON---Join us! On Saturday, June 27, 2009, Bend Bike Move will demonstrate that relocating across town does not have to be an ordeal that requires a car, truck or van. Moving large items and household goods to a new home can be done by bicycle and the power of community.
A “bike move” is a grass-roots concept where volunteers using bikes, bike trailers and cargo/utility bikes, join together to move a home or a business. Participants are rewarded with the hospitality of the host and an opportunity to connect with the community. By moving a household by bike, relocating becomes a social event rather than a chore.
Bike moves have become popular and successful in other cities across the country and have demonstrated the limitless possibilities of alternative transportation and the power of community. As economic hard-times persist, and gas prices are on the rise once again, bike moves are a welcome concept as people continue to look for affordable as well as sustainable solutions.
The Bend Bike Move will take place on June 27. Volunteers are asked to e-mailcascadecouriers@gmail.com or call (541)389-9369 to find out where to meet. Volunteers should plan on arriving at the start location at 2:00pm. Riders will make one single trip of approximately 3 miles. Riders are encouraged to wear bike helmets. At the end of the ride, food and drink will be provided for all volunteers. The event is generously sponsored by Deschutes Brewery and by Pizza Mondo.
