To All,

A good friend of mine is recruiting active females for her
dissertation work at Oregon State investigating menstrual dysfunction,
muscle function, etc. As part of participating in Lynn's research
particpants will get assessed for:
* Aerobic Capacity
* Total Energy Balance (Energy Expenditure / Intake)

MENSTRUAL DYSFUNCTION AND MUSCLE FUNCTION

IN ACTIVE FEMALES STUDY

You are invited to participate in a study examining the effects of
menstrual dysfunction (i.e. less than 8 periods in past year) on
muscle function, conducted by Dr. Melinda M. Manore at Oregon State
University, Department of Nutrition. The study begins in June of 2009
and involves 6 visits, approximately 1 ½ hours each visit, over 1
month for all participants and includes a blood draw, muscle biopsy
and assessments of aerobic capacity, muscle strength and power, bone
health, menstrual status, body composition, dietary intake and energy
expenditure. The study also includes the option to participate in a
6-month intervention, which consists of weekly one-hour visits, daily
consumption of a carbohydrate-protein nutrition shake. All
participants will have a dietary intake/energy expenditure
reassessment at 3-months after beginning the study. In addition,
participants will repeat the assessments at 6-months after the
beginning of the study as described above (blood draw, muscle biopsy,
and assessments of aerobic capacity, muscle strength and power, bone
health, menstrual status, body composition, dietary intake and energy
expenditure) and 2 one-hour follow-up visits at 9- months and
12-months after start of the study. Compensation available. You
receive a no-cost bone density, maximal aerobic capacity test, and
muscle strength and power assessments. If you are between 18-35 y, do
not smoke, exercise regularly, had less than 8 period in the past
year, and would like more information, contact Lynn Kam at (541)
