Hi everyone,

In case you missed the email I sent out last Friday, here are some updates ahead of tonight's short track race # 2 at PIR:

1) Registration
Pre-registration for tonight's race has closed, but you can still register on-site, from 5pm until 15' before the start of each race. If you didn't race last week and still need a race plate, we recommend that you arrive at PIR at least 1 hour before the start of your race, because registration lines can get pretty long. If you have pre-paid online (or have a series pass), all you need to do tonight is check off your name on the sign-in sheet at the pre-reg desk (in front of the race tower) and you're all good to go.

2) Make sure to fill out our online Series Waiver
If you haven't done so yet, please take a minute and fill out and submit our online series waiver:
http://www.portlandracing.com/regform-09.php
You need to do this only once and you will be all set for the whole series. It make the race administration at our end much easier (no deciphering of handwritten waivers) and having your contact information readily available in electronic format could be critical in the case of an emergency.

3) Race plates & Upgrades
This year we are using a new numbering system by category. Please make sure that the category shown at the bottom of your plate is the one that you plan to race in and that you line up at the start with the right group (check the race plates of the racers next to you). If you plan to upgrade, you will have to request a new plate at registration (or at the pre-reg desk if you have pre-paid for your race). If you forget or lose your plate, you will have to purchase a new one ($3/plate) at registration. Handwritten plates or non-series plates will not be honored by our officials.

4) Zoobomb Invitational. Plus Wacko Jacko & Farrah Fawcett Tribute!
That's right, they're back! This Monday, Zoobombers plan to show up in numbers for a 5' exhibition lap on the motocross course (and some fun-inspired mayhem), right after the Cat 2 Men race (at 7:30pm). And to do my share of paying tribute to the fallen stars of my childhood (hmm, giving away my age here...), you'll be racing on Monday to the tunes of MJ, his four brothers, and various other Motown classics. And we'll throw in some very cool prizes for the best impersonators of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett racing a bike. Start working on your hairdos, glitter gloves and multi-zippered race kits!

5) Queen of the Night & other weekly prizes!
Talking about cool prizes... Jennifer Robinson has won our first Queen of the Night trophy. Her name was drawn among all women racers. Jennifer wins a $75 gift certificate, donated by our Women's Sponsor Bike 'N Hike! Each week another woman racer will get a chance to win our Queen of the Night trophy, so keep coming back girls! And starting next Monday, we'll start doling out more weekly prizes to random racers, regardless your category.

6) FREE Beginner & Intermediate Clinics:
Next Monday, we'll continue with our FREE clinics for novice and intermediate racers (from 5pm to 5:45pm). Participants meet in front of the bleachers at the right of the registration tent (look for the "clinics" banner). You don't have to register in advance for the clinics, but you need to fill out and sign a series waiver. If you plan to race the first race of the evening (Cat 3 & juniors) and want to attend the clinics, we strongly recommend you pre-register online.

That's it. I am looking forward to seeing you all tonight for some good old short track fun!

~Kris

PS: if you raced last Monday, don't forget to bring your race plate. And please try to re-use the twisty ties/pipe-cleaners!
