I still need of one or two more crew members for this race. I've got a crack medical staff, a decent mechanic, and a couple of very devoted friends...but I want one, or perhaps two, more folks to join my RAAM team so that no one is overtaxed.
RAAM starts right here in Portland on June 16th, and ends in Pensacola, Florida (hopefully) 10 to (maybe) 12 days later. I will be the first American woman to finish this course as a solo rider.
Requirements for crew are pretty simple. You must have a pulse and a drivers' license, and you must NOT smoke. A sense of humor and adventure is a definite plus. The ability to maintain decent personal hygeine on the road will keep your teammates from pitching you out of the van in western Oklahoma, so it's definitely recommended. The ability to do very simple math (how many calories per bottle?) under extreme conditions would be heavenly, though optional. Knowing a little bit about cycling will definitely make the whole enterprise a lot more interesting to you.
Crew member benefits are also pretty simple: semi-dorky matching crew clothes that you'll wear on the first day while everyone is taking lots of pictures, basic living expenses paid (with the understanding that "room" is a motorhome, and "board" is pretty much alfresco), all the coffee you can drink, a banquet before and after the race, and a guaranteed hot shower at the finish.
I will also provide you with transportation from the finish line back home. And if you are available for just do the first week or so, or just the last part, that'd be cool, too. Especially if you're a kid person: I will very likely need someone to fly down to the finish line with my 12- and 14-year-old kids, who will meet my parents there; then you'd drive back up the course and meet the rest of the crew for the last couple of days of the race.
If you have some time on your hands, want to see the world at 15 mph, and don't mind missing Letterman for a week or so in the process - please let me know.
