Seven days of searing heat! Is there gonna be DUST? Just like Bend. Beautiful DUST!
To make it like Bear Springs maybe you could go to the mountains and get some SNOW to pile up on the course for us to plow thru, it might feel good on a 85 degree day.
It is gonna be a blast, I hope we get good turn-out.
Come on summer racers!
No late fees rule...

Subject: [OBRA Chat] 8 hrs of independence
Hello,
The race
8 Hrs
The course
just under 7 miles and 1050 of vertical per lap
The Terrain
Nothing like you would expect.....bear springs with a mix of Bend and TOE.....
Thats as close as I can describe it.
All I can say is the DH is ripping Fast...and crazy fast and so fast that you could really yard sale if you do not check yourself the first lap or two until you dial it in.
3 low bridges...trees and a few pitches that will make you trot a bit per lap as the effort required to ride may be more than you can muster as the laps go on.
Pass with caution...call out on your left ...wait until its safe...no angry people please.....this is suppose to be fun
We have a few people coming from Far away...so lets show them a real nice OBRA welcome and beat them, but be nice in doing it.
The Online incorrectly lists the fee's...so register the day of for 70.00 for all cats except cat 3 for 50.00 and 2 person teams for 110.00, 2 men, 2 female and mixed.
Register the day of the race 8 am until 9am
Race starts at 10am from the parking area....1 .5 miles from the aide
After 6pm you can drive up to the awards at 6:45
Big raffle.....yakima mounts and lots of prizes
custom medals 3 deep
You must complete all laps by 6pm...if you come across the line at 6:01 your lap does not count
On each lap you will come into the check point/lap and have your number recorded and time recorded. A designated dismount and walk to the checkpoint for 20 yards is required. A 10 minute lap penalty will be applied if you do not dismount and walk to get checked and be released to the aide area just up the road from the checkpoint/lap finish
Please tell me or another timing person if you are done and are not going out
2 person teams, please have your teammate wait in the aide area.... and you decide which one of you is doing the lap....I will track you as a team and add your individual laps up for a total laps accumulated.
Big aide station to re fuel..gels, heed, endurolytes, pb and J and here are a few things you should know
No Camping at the race site...sorry......do not do this big ticket for you
camping is available around Mary's Peak and 20 minutes farther down HWY 34 or off of I-5 at the KOA campground
Campgrounds are not as available as you would think in the coast range and close to corvallis.
Park at the gravel pit off of Botkin rd.....Corvallis to Philomath turn left on HWY 34...DO NOT GO TO BLODGETT!
The course is 7 miles from when you turn onto HWY 34
Drive slow when you turn on BOTKIN RD.......people live on that rd and please drive under 20 when coming in and especially leaving...this is critical as everyone knows the sheriff and we do not want to make him work.
Most of all have fun.....enjoy your bike......and enjoy the BBQ after the event starting around 3pm
Thanks
Mike
